For the ask game: 🗣️Talk about your favourite WIP

so i have a good amount of WIPs that i've absolutely loved getting to write, but i was going back through and reading some of them and i think i may have to give the "favorite" title to a fic i first started way back in 2018, which is actually significant bc the fic itself takes place in 2020... needless to say when i was plotting it out, my expectation was that it would be posted before the setting was past, lol

anyway the fic itself is arbitrarily named "Haikyuu!! Social Media Fic: Hinata Shouyou’s Cinderella Story" right now (it'll definitely get an official title before ever being posted), and takes place during the 2020 summer olympics (which, again, i started plotting this in 2018... sometimes real life complications happen to make your writing even more unrealistic, although i don't think anyone could have predicted the 2020 summer olympics actually taking place in 2021)

but yeah, the fic is entirely written from a social media standpoint, going back and forth between articles written by both American and Japanese reporters, and tweets and tumblr posts by reporters, fans, and players. the current word count is 5.5k+ words, but i have a ways to go and honestly haven't written anything significant for it in a year or two. i have every intention of getting back to it at some point though! maybe after rewatching Haikyuu :)

1. what are you currently working on?

i’ve actually got a bunch of projects right now… some i can talk about, some i can’t (big bangs! my first ones and i’m really excited but yeah, can’t really reveal much more beyond that). ok, so the one’s i can talk about are:

gracing ghosts: supernatural fic… i’ve written two scenes so far, the prologue and a scene in the middle, but it’s gonna be a huge project - i’m anticipating 50k+ words - so i’m waiting till i finish everything else before i get started on that

(working title): hardy boys fic… i started this for my april camp nano but never got past 6k words. i think it’ll end up being one of my larger projects (probably ~20-25k words, so larger than anything i’ve got so far but not as large as ‘gracing ghosts’) and also one of my favorites. it’s been a while since i wrote for the hb fandom but i’ve gotten a much better handle on the characters and my writing now, so i can’t wait to really get into the heart of it. oh, it’s also biff/joe so it’s a rare pair!

liven my body: hobbit fic… listen, this fic is my baby. i’ve been working on it since april of 2015 but haven’t posted any of it. it’s about 13k words already and still going strong, but it’s that fic that i’ll write a few hundred words for and then leave it for a few weeks. but that ask from last week, when you told me to pick my favorite fic for the questions? this would’ve been it if i had posted any of it already.

(working title): musketeers fic… another large one (for me anyway), it’s ~10k words already but i’m honestly thinking about rewriting the whole thing because i think i got d’artagnan’s characterization wrong. we’ll see.

shooting blind: hobbit fic… how could i forget that one fic i have that hasn’t been updated in (*checks*) 2.5 years? (holy shit has it actually been 2.5 years? i’m so sorry)… i should really get back to it at some point instead of writing 45k+ words of additional fic (half of which hasn’t even been posted yet), but to be honest i’m struggling…

olympian dwarves: hobbit/pjo crossover… yeah… this fic… honestly i don’t even like this one and i’m the one who’s been writing it. it hasn’t been updated since december of 2013 and that’s why.

i’ve got a bunch of other fic ideas/fics that i’ve half-started but they either haven’t been posted yet or don’t qualify as “currently working on”

6. how do you get through writers block?

with lots of ice cream and crying no, i’m kidding, i either switch over to a different fic (as you can see from what i wrote above i’ve got plenty to choose from), just put it off till i’m up to writing for that one fic again, or force myself to power through and get to a point where i feel like i’m actually writing well again. it depends on my mood, honestly.
