Slenderman Tier lists (with explainations)
Found this tierlist from @/alangbandala so I thought to take a crack at it and explain myself and my preferences with Slendy designs.
Fuck You:
Slenderman's main schtick is that he's tall, slender, and faceless; most of these fuckers are NOT that.
Giving Slenderman a face feels like a Sin. Every time you give Slenderman a face, like actually a face, not like a human fan design face, like an actual face, every time you do that, an angel fucking shoots itself.
The only time I ever liked Slenderman having a face was the og Slenderman Mythos, where he did have one, it just didn't show up on camera, and one piece of fan art I can't find where basically it was less a face and more a pattern, like how animals try to look like other animals to scare off predators.
Also, some of these guys are just so abstract I can't stand it. Nothing wrong with abstract designs, but it gets to a point.
No Face:
A little better.
They got the core features down, so I'm satisfied.
Again, some of them are too abstract, again, nothing wrong, but he's Slenderman, not Toothpickman.
Also, the ones with the tendrils bug me. I like the tentacles, but something bout the ones here rub be the wrong way.
No Eyes, Oh No, I'm Paralyzed:
They all kinda blended together at this point, but I think you can tell what I like in a Slenderman design:
Less is more.
I can appreciate designs that do something creative, for example, the 2018 design, which had love poured into it, and I like the idea of Slenderman being a tree-like creature with bark skin, and his suit being organic-looking, like a suit out of coincidence.
But I like normal Slenderman more.
I like it when his suit is a suit, when his skin is skin, the average cosplay is what satisfies me.
My problem, though, is how often with practical costumes like the one in Marble Hornets and Fathom, is the awkward posture and wrinkled suit. I can't narc on it too much, given how heavy those arm extensions must be, but I find it silly that an Eldritch entity has back problems and doesn't iron his suit.
My Slenderman:
Yeah, it's just MH's design, but his suit is less wrinkled, and he's standing up straight, basically it.
I do have more going on though:
For one, I really hammered down the "slender" aspect; he's not just kinda skinny, he's straight up malnourished, you can see his Goddamn ribs underneath his suit.
He also wears a fedora and has a rose in his suit pocket cause it's cool.
As I said earlier, I like when face concepts are creative, and I'm not sure if I'll even integrate this in my AU, but I did come up with a concept:
He has a face, just not one that can be seen, think like the light spectrum or color blindness, where you can't see certain light, so your brain autocorrects to gray or some shit, same thing here, he has a face, but it's so abstract that it's easier for our brains to process it as blank.
