no cryptic one-liner here. My Castle Town is my favorite track from deltarune, period, and i have a lot of feelings about it. a handful of those many feelings: the song has always sounded like a waltz to me (and music theory-wise, i think it actually does qualify as a waltz?), and i find it incredibly beautiful that it as a theme gets remixed so often in places of home and community. a "default area theme", but a lovely one.

my partner and i have been talking a lot about finding a new home; of finding a better place to start our lives and work hard in a place that welcomes it. i wish we could step foot into Castle Town ourselves as innocuous denizens; as two vagrant travelers walking into a new home, hand in hand, becoming part of the scenery. i'd like to take them to the streets of such a place and dance, like old strangers and new friends, and hear the sound of clumsy footwork and hard laughter bounce back at us from the walls that cradle us.
those feelings, of love and of yearning, i think may be why i worked on this piece to the extent that i did. i got a little too ambitious, and i did take shortcuts at the end to simply see it complete, but i'm happy to have it made and have it be some level of "done".
originally i wanted the rest of the seniors in this piece, but they were always going to be in the foreground (as they were surrounding the booth). they've instead been replaced by cliq and an extremely out-of-shot sweet. apologies for the lack of sweet. to make up for it, here's something i drew earlier today:
i aim to scale back the effort i'm putting into these for at least the next week, but we'll see if i hold myself to that.
originally this piece wasn't this... big. 4800x3200px, 300dpi, that's probably a chunky file. i draw big and this was bigger than usual. i attribute it to the fact that the first thing i sketched was pink sr and sev-5 dancing as a rough draft... and i got so attached to the pose, i decided to build the scene around the two. i knew i was going to set the scene in the courtyard where the addisons started their pop up, and when i knew that i was going to draw the seniors dancing, i knew i wanted ralsei to also be in the picture.
though ralsei isn't baked into the background (i can take ralsei out), he ties in so well into the scenery that it feels odd to take him out.

that rudinn's the same one that started the Fan Club.
sweet and k_k are playing music. and cap'n is either flirting with clover in the other room, or is with the other addisons judging the taste of cd bagels together (he wasn't sure if any of them were mademoiselles, and they weren't sure if he was going to buy anything, so somehow their energies canceled out and they just started hanging out.)
if my partner were a darkner, i think they'd be a cute robot character. and if i were a darkner, i'd probably be something yellow and scattered.
there's more personal addison lore relevant to this, but i think i'll save that for another post.

Chapter 1! I'd played when it had first came out but it didn't have a huge impact on me, so in replaying it this year I took my time and really savored it. It was better the second time around. Had fun with the colors here! Limited promarker palette + crayola twistables <3
Ch2 under the cut, both because post long, but also because it's a lot of dialogue straight from funny lil moments in the game! So while it's not big spoilers (and I don't think we generally care about ch2 spoilers anymore?) I often feel the little spoilers are more impactful because, yknow, those are the little unexpected moments I delight in most when playing these games. Ok ramble over go my chapter 2 doodles WHOOSHHHH~

Queen is So Goddamn Funny I love her and her lcd display sunglass-eyes and her weird-shaped head. Like Lancer I can't tell the difference between her clothes and her body (compliment)
Overall Chapter 2 had me rolling. Sadly I don't have as many doodles of Chapter 3 because I was a lil more tired when I played that one, but yknow, most of my fanart is very Ch3 focused so they can live with that penalty. Still have yet to finish Ch4 LMAO but I will Make It A Point to draw when I do return to it (winter break save me. save me winter break)
drawing random utdr characters day 27: politics bear (utdr) and the Worm (deltarune). Two of them because I felt like the worm alone was too easy
wishing that bear the best in his future endeavors (he's canonically becoming disillusioned with politics because all he's done so far is stand there and look important.)
