2 grown-ass systems btw
just wanted to draw some fun concepts for TV darkners this is Catti and Catty's tv and Noelle's tv on her room.
It’s very interesting how out of all the Chapter Bosses/Dark World Leaders we’ve seen so far, our first ‘introductory’ villain is, in retrospect, an especially rebellious and unusual Darkner. King kinda, like, broke the norm before we even got a chance to understand the norm.
Y'know… both Queen and Tenna fully embrace their ‘Purpose’ in their own ways. Tenna is motivated by a feeling of having failed his Purpose as a television and wanting a chance to fix that, while Queen wholeheartedly believed that taking over the world would farther her Purpose as a computer to make Lightners happy… despite being antagonists, they still follow the basic conceit of the roles they are supposed to fulfill as Darkners.
King is the one who tried to actively reject his Purpose, actually rejects the usual dynamic between Lightners and Darkners, decided on a new Purpose for himself under the Knight’s service.
He’s a Playing Card, a thing meant to play and have fun with the Lightners, but having been barred from fulfilling this Purpose for reasons beyond his control when the Lightners abandoned all the toys in the Classroom, he decided to transform himself into a conquering overlord who will crash Lightners under his boot. He tried to choose who he is in this world.
He’s the one ‘Main’ Boss who has yet to be redeemed and befriended …not necessarily because he’s just So Horribly Irredeemably Evil to the Max… I mean he is kinda Terrible but that’s not the thing stopping him from self-improvement or making friends with our heroes.
It’s because in his eyes, befriending a Lightner will just be surrendering to the dynamics of Light and Dark that has brought him nothing but despair in the first place, the thing he was trying so hard to break. In a way, if he were to befriend Kris or Susie, he would just be conceding to the Purpose he was trying to reject.
On some level, out of all the ‘Main’ Bosses we’ve seen, he’s the one kinda closest to the outlook of a Shadow Crystal Boss. I suppose it’s no wonder that he was pretty fond of Jevil… he is the Chaos King, after all…

Dark World based on my room... something like that
I think they'd all live in trailers since I move from dorm to dorm and keep most of my stuff in boxes
Do you have any plans to show regular Darkner encounters/recruits for new areas? Not as any big thing, just as fun side content to the main story. Sort of a “yeah, these guys are around” kind of bonus, if you get what I mean!
I have a few plans for regular darkners and recruits for new areas. THE STILL SEA doesn't have any traditional darkners patrolling the ice, so instead I'll share two from THE NECROPOLIS:
The Boo-Hoo-Quets
One may hear the melancholic sobs of this darkner choing across the stone halls of the Necropolis. These darkners will often assail passerbys with mournful tales of the deceased, threatening to lower their spirits or drown them in their tears. To RECRUIT these darkners, one must commiserate in their sorrow by telling tales of their own deceased friends and fellows. Be warned, any attempts to dry their tears or accelerate their grieving will cause them to fly into a rage, making them far more dangerous for a time
Digging clan (Trowelle)
A once hardworking and loyal group of darkners, the digging clan held fealty to the shelled priest of vows and the great horned groundskeeper. They kept the ground sacred, interring the deceased's dust and the flowers the groundskeeper helped grow. This pact was shattered when the shelled priest used one of their own clan to disturb the peace of one of the honoured dead, whisking away their dust and leaving the grave empty. Now the clan is in disarray, attacking travellers in fear that they too will steal more of the dead and thus defile the ground forever. To RECRUIT these darkners, one must convince them that you are one who keeps their oaths and holds sacrosanct the holiness of the dirt.
exploring unexplained darkner lore: WHEN does a darkner gain consciousness, exactly?
alternate title: WOODY THEORY IS ACTUALLY RELEVANT BUT NOT IN THE WAY WE THOUGHT??? MAYBE???
there are so many unanswered questions regarding how darkners and dark worlds “work” and i’m really fascinated by the worldbuilding put out so far - but we still don’t really know what the deal is, not really.
the way ralsei explains dark worlds in chapter 3 basically tells us what we already know, but explicitly - darkners are objects in the light world. they’re not “real” and derive “purpose” from being needed by lightners (which is a whole can of worms.)
as evidenced by lancer’s “all gone!” reaction to susie asking where his dark world went in chapter 2, sealing dark fountains DOES effectively destroy the world, but not necessarily the people inside it (if you decide to recruit them.) there’s an obvious ethical dilemma here that’s been on people’s minds since chapter 1 came out. to me, the biggest question is:
does the dark world always exist, inaccessible to lightners, or is it physically created and destroyed on the same day? are the fountains portals or creators?
DELTARUNE HEADCANONS 1
- Kris buys Susie those candy chalk sticks, Susie loves them because they have the same texture and crunch, which was what she ate chalk for anyway.
- Ralsei and Kris have a sort of silent relationship. They don’t usually have to speak to each other, simply understanding what the other means. Kris has really warmed up to Ralsei, and Ralsei does his best to give Kris the space and help they need.
- Noelle is really confused on why Kris and Susie are such good friends, considering they didn’t seem to get along until recently. She thinks they have some weird friends with benefits thing. They do not, they are just both weird.
- Berdly and Ralsei would actually get along very well, Ralsei would listen to Berdly rant and Berdly would try and hold back his cockyness, knowing how low Ralsei thinks of himself.
- Kris isn’t actually that mad that the soul made them go to the carnival with Berdly. Berdly sort of reminds them of Asirel, just a bit of an asshole.
-Kris leaves a little light in their window every night, hoping that it might help Dess come home.
- Kris and Berdly date just to piss everyone the fuck off. They bond over being little SHITS.
