WR: So, this is coming a fair few months later than it really should have - but, between welcoming some new faces to the library, keeping tabs on a couple sessions I’d best keep an eye on, spending time with a few people, and so on, the few opportunities I’ve had to think about this have been...Poorly spent, to say the least.
WR: And, what I’m talking about of course is the subject of Fused Aspects. I had mentioned a while back that I was working on a few postulates with which to further study and understand the concept, so...I guess, here they are.
WR: One; Fused Aspects can only be a combination of two separate Aspects - an Aspect cannot be combined with itself, for obvious reasons. Two; Fused Aspects are distinct from regular Aspects in that their names are, at the very least, disyllabic, or composed of two or more syllables.
WR: ......That’s about it, honestly. I’ve tried to reason, fathom, and guess as to what all else Fused Aspects may entail, and I’ve gotten...Nowhere. So, for the time being, those are the two Fused Aspect postulates.
WR: I can only really wonder how Fused Aspects would work - do they combine natures of the two Aspects into a whole other concept, or do some Aspects accentuate the natures of others?
WR: Would there be any difference in how Passive Aspects mix with themselves to how they would mix with Active ones - and vice versa.
WR: And, beyond that - what sort of Aspects would these combinations produce? I’ve jotted down a few tentative names for possible Void-Fused Aspects - Twilight, Umbrage, and Shadow - but, by and large, the concept remains a mystery to me.
WR: We’re still definitely working to try and get such a fusion to occur. I imagine that Light players might be able to actually trigger something to fuse Aspects, but we still have yet to test it.
WR: I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on the subject. Someone somewhere out there has to have something of a guess as to how all this works, so - if anyone would like to theorize with me, don’t hesitate to send a message our way.
WR: Well, it’s primarily subjective, but I find that Heart is the most powerful Active Aspect, due to its inherent nature of being about oneself and their potential.
WR: Pair that up with an Active Class with much, much greater personal potential - possibly more than we readily know - and you have something theoretically overpowered.
WR: Though, at the same time, my idea could probably also be pretty dumb, since it’s mostly “this Title leans so hard into the Active side of the spectrum that it’s knocked the spectrum over and is lying on the floor”.
WR: So, do take that with a grain of salt, as I’ve yet to really personally discover or think about more theoretically powerful Titles. “^_
AbsentInquiries Title Masterpost Part 5, Page 1: The Knight, Revisited
WR: Heheheh, I knew I’d be back here, but I didn’t expect to do so for this reason. Ladies and gentlemen, a wonderful fellow stopped by and provided me with some valuable information, which they’ve allowed me to put into the Title Index.
WR: As a preface, these will primarily be regarding difference in polarity and power definition from my own, as personality traits didn’t really come up in our discussion, but nevertheless, their input will prove invaluable for those seeking a more realistic interpretation of the Knight and the Page.
WR: So, to give a quick brush up of my own definition of the Knight powers, I claimed that they draw power from without - using implements, symbols, and artifacts imbued with the power of their Aspect to do their magical work, and that their polarity was Passive - “other-oriented”.
WR: Chernubs proposed instead that Knights are Active Classes, and rather than drawing power from tools or implements, they instead have fairly limited access to their Aspect, but exploit what they have, wringing every last advantage they can get from it.
WR: Their two major examples were those of the Knight of Time, Dave Strider, using time-travel to make the very most of a session with a limited amount of time, and the Knight of Blood, Karkat Vantas, barely managing to bring his session through despite the lack of cohesion or solid bonds.
WR: To quote specifically; “dave's ability to almost singlehandedly sustain his session purely through time hopping even with only 24 hours to work with or how karkat partially kept his session together through working what connections they had to benifit the group.”
WR: So, in summation, this definition of the powers of the Knight is that they lack a greater access to their powers (which seems to take the form of a fated imposition - a lack of time, a lack of cohesion, and so on), but can manipulate it to amazing ends.
WR: I hope I’m doing Chernubs’ take on Knights some justice! Keep an eye out in the next half-hour for Pages Revisited. .)
AbsentInquiries Title Masterpost Part 5, Page 2: The Page, Revisited
WR: Following up with the revisited Knight powers earlier, Chernubs’ take on the Page - the polar opposite to the Knight.
WR: So, this one, the Polarity of the Class remains the same - Passive, though in this case the Page is the counterpart to the Knight, not the Heir. My interpretation of their powers is that, while they initially start off weak and without any notable strengths, upon reaching the end of their quest, they gain access to unimaginable power, at the cost of the inability to direct it.
WR: A few days ago, Rose quoted me saying “Heirs are like an artist given a lump of clay and the tools to shape it” - likewise, my interpretation of Pages was akin to giving someone a lump of C4 and a hammer.
WR: However, Chernubs’ version of the Page paints them in a more subtle, less visible, but altogether just as powerful light - and their example was none other than the very Page I disregarded for that lack of visibility. The Page of Breath, Tavros Nitram.
WR: To quote; “tavros being the guiding force driving an army he formed purely through passive suggestion and being ‘the wind behind their backs’. Not only just when he had gathered the rather impressive army of ghosts despite having been dead for a long time and never truely showing any development, but he had even been able to convince the underlings inhabing his land to help him simply by asking to do so.”
WR: Notice that - Breath is a social aspect. Charisma, freedom, action - these are what define Breath. And Tavros - while not seeming to - displayed charisma and action in rallying an army /and/ persuading the Underlings on LOSAZ.
WR: Quoting Chernubs again; “Id have to say that when it comes to pages themselves with the application of the ‘exploit’ function, it would boil down to their actions passively leading to outcomes that serve to ultimately better them and how if left alone to truely work towards their goals they can pull off extreme feats related to their aspect almost subconsciously.”
WR: Tavros was left to his own devices in both cases - time spent dead, and time spent communicating with the Underlings, with no pressure from other players to show his strengths. It was all him.
WR: While that still does bring up questions about what exactly happened with Jake in that doomed session, it can still generally be understood that his powers there weren’t exactly his own, as he had been tampered with by Aranea.
WR: So, the powers of a Page are subtle, the passive manipulation of one’s Aspect to achieve their goals. Whether it’s the subtle rallying or persuasion of Breath, or the impeccable inspiration of Hope, the Page - left alone - can accomplish great things without even realizing it.
WR: Again, I hope I’m not misreading or misrepresenting this - if I am, Chernubs, please come by again and correct me. For those others reading this, I hope this alternate take on the powers of Pages is helpful, and thanks again to Chernubs for telling me about this and letting me add pages to the Index for it. ^_
WR: The Knight of Light is someone who draws the power of light from without - using tools, implements, and symbols of power to make use of their radiant Aspect, without actually having the powers themselves.
WR: Knights are very friendly - maybe not the best people, sometimes, but they are definitely friendly, and very rarely do they wind up being jerks. While amicable, Knights have a tendency to put up a wall of sorts to block things out and distance themselves from a situation easily. This wall takes the form of a facade drastically different from their usual demeanors.
WR: Light is the Aspect of the visible, the known, and the influence of random occurrence. Most Light players are fairly confident and fairly learned - they know plenty of things, and are more than willing to share their knowledge with the world. And, of course, more than willing to gather new knowledge.
WR: However, with their natural intellect and confidence, Light players can be somewhat proud, and draw their share of ire from people, but such is the nature of Active polarities. That aside, Light players tend to find comfort in long talks, whether it’s about any specific subject or just simply an open conversation.
WR: Lastly, another piece about Knights; often, they have issues of self-worth. While Knights undoubtedly get things done, they are still Passive Classes, and so self-esteem is something they have trouble dealing with, though if given enough time and space, they will often resolve most of their issues in some way.
WR: I hope this analysis helps to give a good understanding of the Knight of Light.
WR: Some time ago, I wrote posts going over the Polarities of Classes and Aspects. Today, I’m going to talk about how Classes and Aspects relate and mingle with each other.
WR: Some might be able to remember that, quite a while ago, I used to denote Titles as a combination of their Class and Aspect Polarities. Double-Active, Double-Passive, Passive-Active, and Active-Passive.
WR: The biggest reason for this is because Classes and Aspects have unique relations when put together as a Title; namely, personality traits from both blending into something unique. While there are notable traits for certain Polarity combinations, each individual player is unique. Outside of alternate-timeline selves (and even then, really), you will not find two players of the same Title and same personality.
WR: To start, let’s take a look at Double-Active and Double-Passive players. For Double-Active (AA), we’ll use Vriska as an example. Notoriously bloodthirsty, aggressive, and always out for her own gain, the Thief of Light, as a combination of the Active traits of Thieves (selfishness, aggression) and the Active traits of Light (pride, quick-thinking) demonstrates that combining an Active Class and Active Aspect produce traits more oriented towards the Active side of both parts of the Title.
WR: What about Double-Passives (PP)? Well, Karkat, in the same vein as Vriska, demonstrates the Passive traits of both Knights (guarded, wearing a facade, issues of self-worth) and Blood players (socially strong, emotionally intense), making the same case for PP Titles as Vriska has for AA Titles.
WR: With the other two types, Passive-Active (PA) and Active-Passive (AP), their traits are fairly interesting; in the case of PA Titles, the presence of an Active Aspect imbalances the Passive Class traits, making them more susceptible to dangerous thinking, lapses of judgement, or mental breakdowns of some sort.
WR: On the other hand, AP Titles are much more rounded, with the Passivity of the Aspect keeping the strong Active traits of the Class in check. As examples for both, let’s look at Dave and Sollux - while Knights normally don’t easily fall into the traps of their issues of self-esteem, Dave had an easier time falling into it - though, that’s also due in part to the trauma he suffered before entering SBURB.
WR: Sollux, I suppose, was also unstable in the first place, having the ability to hear the voices of the soon-to-die and also suffering from Bipolar Disorder. Though, he managed to deal with his issues thanks to Feferi’s help, I still feel as though AP players have a predisposition to personal instability.
WR: As for PA players, Jade is a shining example of their well-rounded nature. With all the compassion and earthly nature of Space, she didn’t have much in the way of negative traits from being a Witch - and the same could be said for Kanaya, as well. The nature of Space helped her combat the worst of Sylphish vanity and caprice.
WR: While I do feel fairly sure in saying this all, I advise to take this information with a grain of salt - even I’m not 100% sure I know how the relations of Title Polarity works, so beyond this I recommend thinking about the subject at-length and drawing your own conclusions.
WR: I hope that this served as an interesting topic, and even more I hope that it provokes some thought about how Titles manifest in people.
WR: Sure thing. So, Witches are very openly positive folks (strange for Active Classes), and they have a general ease of saying what’s on their mind - they don’t mince words, and sometimes they can say some pretty harsh things.
WR: Witches are also very confident - a trait only bolstered by the Aspect of Breath, whose players are often courageous and confident. They’re also fairly carefree, not really bothering to mind other people’s thoughts on a given matter, and as Breath players, they’re blessed with a keen intuition, often knowing exactly what to do in a given moment.
WR: Altogether, a Witch of Breath is socially active, confident, caring of what they say, but understanding of the meaning of it, and given to a very strong intuition.
WR: I could be horribly wrong, but it looks like a Witch of Breath does somewhat fit the description of an INFP, though I’ll let you be your own judge in that regard.
WR: Starting with the Heir; the Heir of Life is one who seems to have the powers of Life with them all the time, safeguarding them from dangers, but can only truly access it upon Ascension. After which, they can begin developing an uncanny mastery of their Aspect, molding their powers as they see fit - though they have power limitations, the applications are practically innumerate.
WR: This takes the form of anything from fostering Life to controlling living things, and so on. How you see what they do is based on your interpretations of Life and what exactly you can do with power in that domain.
WR: Their personalities are generally that they’re friendly, primarily try to be altruistic, but also have a bad habit of being narcissistic sometimes. Though, they will often humble themselves when caught, and they always try to be friends when they can - though, odds are, at least someone out there will see them as a dick.
WR: As for Thieves, the Thief of Life is one who steals Life for themselves, or steals things for themselves through Life. I’m unsure how that second interpretation would go, but the first is plain and simple: Stealing the life essence from others.
WR: Personality-wise, Thieves are self-centered, arrogant, but exceptionally clever. They’re not very socially adept, they’re impulsive, and very, very aggressive. While they do have downtime from their usual antagonistic ways, they’re still very much “me” people.
WR: With the Aspect of Life, Thieves are much more likely to be socially capable, and at least have some sort of strong personal relationships with others, but it would likely be a rarity for them to actually develop one. Though, make no mistake - even if they seem to hate everyone and everything, they do care about others, and likely wouldn’t waste a life.
