Exorcising my hand demons into older Mabel! I used to wear wrist braces a lot and I think if Mabel did she would bedazzle them---I've only seen them in really boring colors. It might not be practical, but it is fun!

I just got wrist braces for possible carpal tunnel, it's more of a temporary aid but oh my god it's only been a day and they've made such a difference

Does anyone have funny ideas of things to say to people when they ask “what happened to your arms? :(“ upon seeing my wrist braces? Like very bluntly saying “unicycle accident” and refusing to elaborate. That kinda shit. I’m tired of strangers asking and me having to sheepishly explain that this wasn’t an acute injury, I just have chronic pain from a lifetime of wrist strain.

I’ll probably never get the guts to actually say a silly lie (some ppl genuienly don’t think of braces as something for chronic pain so if I can educate em or otherwise remind them that disabled ppl exist that’s a win in my book.) but who knows

In even better news for my shitty joints, my dad's ex medic girlfriend is helping me get a diagnosis and hopefully get a pass from pe until I get one!! She actually believes me about it being a chronic issue that's been ongoing since 2nd grade she's awesome omgggg

costumizing my wrist braces: part 1

as some of yall may know i have a case of tendonitis wich tends to rear its ugly head during exams or other big projects, wich means that i carry around a set of wrist braces wherever i go

the problem is that said braces are of the color i would charitably call "medical beige", and the resulting look honestly ruins all of my outfits

so today, armed with a bottle of rit dyemore, access to a cricut and obnoxious htv, various colors of thread, AND a big bag of safetypins, i have officially started operation "make the braces not suck"

the dye took really well and i am happy with that, BUT it turns out that the glue holding all the little bits together was heat-based and thereby Did Not like 30 minutes in close-to-boiling water

its not anything i cant fix with stitching, and i was planning on adding something decorative anyway, but it was a bit of a shock to discover upon pulling the braces from the bath

thus concludes the first part if this saga, second part (here, or check the "operation make the braces not suck" tag on my blog) will probably be the htv once the braces are dry and i have the spoons to do it

bought new wrist braces. the old ones survived ~11 months of heavy use, including multiple times where i tripped and landed on outstretched hands. enough of the stitching in the velcro has ripped that the velcro isn't "sticky" anymore. the first two pics are the old right wrist brace. third is the new one! they're mueller fitted wrist braces, about 16 bucks each. 5 out of 5 stars, they're extremely comfortable, easy to clean, sturdy but not bulky, etc etc.
