WIP Announcement (and re-re introduction)

Hello everybody! I've been busy for a while and I haven't been able to respond to a lot of the tag games and asks that I've recieved, but now finally I am done (for now) and I can get back to responding to y'all and posting about my WIP!

For those of you who haven't seen me before, Hello! You can call me C. I am currently working on a series of fantasy novels, The Testaments of the Green Sea. The story follows the journey of the giant Narul and the princess Ninma as they travel the lands of Kishetal. Along the way they encounter spirits, monsters, demons, magic, war, gods, pirates, and slavers.

The setting and story is based around the mythologies and cultures of the Bronze age, no knights here sorry to say.

Genre: Epic Fantasy

Themes and Tropes (Or more accurately a random assortment of words vaguely related to the plot): Found Family, immortality, loss, love, war, power, memory, magic, insanity, political shenanigans, The passage of time, growing up, queerness in the ancient world, violence, spirits, fantasy outside of medieval europe

I finished the second draft of the first book (and started book 2) and I thought that I was happy with it, but lately I've been thinking more about a lot of the characters that I've included and the stories that I want to tell and I have realized that even with 208,000 words, I wasn't able to fully capture everything that I wanted to. And so I have decided to give myself more work and to split my first book into three separate books which will let me give all of the characters and stories the attention they need without overcrowding.

And I have finally come up with titles! The series overall is called The Testaments of the Green Sea and the three new books are as follows:

The Giant and The Princess

The Pirate and The Poet

The Hammer and the Spear

Some things you can expect in the next few days:

I will finally be posting the intro to my OC, Zatar (I'm including a drawing of him down below), and will be posting a poll or two about other characters that y'all want to be introduced to you.

I might do a poll about a poll, to see what sort of thing y'all would be interested in seeing

I will be posting a recipe for a cheesecake recipe from my world, this is a way to celebrate 200 followers (thank y'all so much btw!)

hello, hello my name is mali (she/her & an adult). a caregiver and aspiring author. i'm back on tumblr after a decade away (and a few years of burnout) to carve out a tiny, quiet corner here to document my writing journey and follow along with others' own journeys too.

high fantasy (for teens & adults) remains my first love and i adore the kind that dips its toes into other genres as well (from epic fantasies with just a hint of romance to full blown mysteries that just so happen to take place in a fantastical setting). you're sure to find elements like morally gray characters on all sides of the conflict, enemies-to-[insert anything tbh], twists on classic fantasy tropes, friends-to-lovers, characters fighting like hell for their happy ending (or just a bittersweet one), friends-to-enemies, angsty angst, and analysis on the corruption of power and the pursuit of it in different forms all up in my work at different points as those are the things i love to read about too. i have completed manuscripts and have even queried three of them in the past. i am currently in the middle of drafting a gothic romantic fantasy and i feel pretty good about it tbh.

misc. interests ✩

i have an intense unfulfilled wanderlust lol and will have pictures of travels to share one day. i looove movies (films, ~the cinema lol) and will ramble at length about them given any chance (started a youtube channel to do so and to eventually discuss books & vlog my writing journey there as well). i will be very annoying during oscar season lol. i'm in the midst of a heated rivalry psychosis rn and i adore interview with the vampire. i am a top chef & masterchef connoisseur despite occasionally burning premade bagels. hozier should be in the acknowledgments of everything i write. i am very much into interactive fiction (which is part of why i came back to tumblr). my favorites rn are wayfarer, infamous, when twilight strikes, and fields of asphodel. i have mostly shaken off my years-long kpop stanning, but the appreciation still lingers (taemin, nct 127, shinee, twice, nct dream, exo, bts). and i spend too much time on youtube in general (creators i watch the most: author liselle sambury, author lindsay puckett, withcindy, kennie jd, danny gonzalez, toonrifictariq, and j aubrey)

Writer Intro

Hey there! I’m K (she/they), currently going through my character growth arc and trying to write between the chaos ^.^

I’m a 26 year old living in the northern half of the Rockies with my partner, our four dogs, and a cat who thinks she’s a dog. When I’m not working or writing, I split my time between hiking, photography, video games, or reading.  I’m proudly asexual and nonbinary, and queerness is an inherent aspect of all my stories.

I primarily write fantasy/speculative fiction, running the gamut from world that are just-a-touch magical to planets steeped in the mystical. I prefer thriller, mystery, and horror genres, and common themes for me are monstrosity, found family, character-driven tragedy, the lies we believe, and questionable morality.

My absolute favorite things to write about are characters who are messy and terrible but keep trying to be better anyway, and magic that doesn’t quite work the way you want it to.

My main wips are listed on the sidebar of my blog, but here’s a quick rundown anyway~

Shapeshifter

Urban Fantasy Thriller series - three friends find themselves in the position of ‘fixers’ for their local supernatural and criminal communities after stumbling-ass-first into solving a number of mysteries in the city they call home.

War Witch

Dieselpunk Fantasy - an archaeology student determined to bring magic back to the world embarks on an expedition that quickly turns dangerous as forgotton histories, allies, and politics threaten not only the return of magic, but the safety of every living thing.

I apologize in advance for the chaos that is my blog. I try to keep things tagged, but it’s kind of an unsettling amalgamation of writing advice, inspiration, yelling about my wips, and things that make me laugh.

ABOUT ME

Hi! I’m pale-horse-writing, also known in various corners of the internet as Kien or Tent. I am an agender (he/him, they/them) American college student studying nursing and currently, an aspiring author! I am also neurodivergent (so apologies for my erratic update schedules). I write primarily in the horror and superhero genres with occasional dips outside those.

ABOUT WRITING/WIPS

As mentioned, my favorite genres are horror and superheroes- I’ve combined them relatively rarely, though. With horror, I like to focus on small towns and more primal fears (disease, predators, mortality, etc), typically with a body horror angle. My superhero stories are (usually) thematically lighter, often with emphasis on younger heroes struggling to find their place. I also write almost exclusively queer/LGBT+ content, but that’s just a personal quirk.

In general, I write short stories over long pieces. I will often write pieces with reoccurring characters though (whether protagonists or just in the background).

I currently have two WIPs that I will likely be posting about later- one an unnamed horror short that the moodboard above is for and the other a family drama/fantasy/horror piece named “Helter, 2008″.

GENERAL/FUN FACTS

- I am agender, aromantic and pansexual!

- I’ve been writing since middle school, but I haven’t really posted a lot online due to my own insecurities. I want to move past that, so I’m trying this!

- I am autistic and I often incorporate overtly autistic or autistic-coded protagonists as a result. I feel like our current representation isn’t really reflective of the realities of being autistic, typically because it’s written by NT authors without consulting us directly.

- My favorite tropes in writing include: hurt/comfort, found family, enemies to friends/enemies to lovers, bittersweet endings, pining, and that big dramatic moment where someone who’s been hiding a secret reveals it, often with negative effects.

- I made this post in part because of @thewalkingnerdx​ . I really appreciate their advice about not letting the type of fiction you write (or its length) stop you from posting. Also, their moodboards are beautiful!

An introduction (of sorts)

hello there, friends! I’m honored you made the mistake of stepping onto my blog!

I’m Jen, and (surprise, surprise) I like to write. And here we are. 

I’ve been wAY too scared to post anything on here for a while now, but I’m working up the nerve to actually be part of this amazing community, and I’m excited to get to know everyone and read a bunch of your wips!

I sing + play a heck lot of instruments - Saxophone, Piano, Viola, Parai.

I swim! I’m a swimmer! I love it! But recently I injured my knee so it’s gonna take a while before I can swim again :( But if you’re a swimmer hit me the heck up! I want to talk to everyone!

(also, very uncommon, I run track. A swimmer who can run? I think there’s only 4 of us out there)

I’m writing [untitled] in a paper notebook! I’ve never tried writing like that before but I think I love it!

Writeblr Introduction

Dear Writeblr,

Hi, my name’s Maddie and I don’t really know how you’re supposed to write an introduction. I guess I’ll have just wing it and see how it goes. I’m in my late teens, a high school student, asexual, and an aspiring writer.

I’ve been on tumblr for a while now, but I haven’t been exposed to the writeblr community until recently. I love the community and how encouraging and supporting everyone is, which made me realize that, hey, I don’t have to be afraid of sharing my stories with the rest of the world.

The current WIP that I’m putting most of my attention to is When Comes the Dawn (a working title), a historical/fantasy novel where everyone can/has the potential to use magic except the main character. I’m planning to have the WIP intro for it posted soon if anyone is interested. I have another WIP called Unconventional, but that one’s not ready to see the light of day just yet.

Feel free to drop by my blog and talk to me about your wips, my wips, just plain ol’ chatting, or to tag me in games. I love making friends! I’m really excited to be part of this amazing community, and I hope that by interacting with you guys that I’ll be able to grow and develop my writing into something better than it was before  And maybe one day, I’ll be able to give back to this community that’s already helped me so much.

writeblr introduction to new followers

Hello lovebugs!! I’ve had an influx of followers over the past few days, and I think it’s about That Time to write a bit about who I am and what I do. I’m a 24-year-old American romance novelist (pronouns she/her) with a love for fairy tales with paranormal twists. 

Things I love: tea, hoarding books I don’t necessarily intend to read, Novo Amor, cats, the colors cyan and red (especially together), snowy and rainy days, owls, witchery, iced vanilla chai 

Things I strongly dislike: HUMIDITY, driving, when my phone runs out of charge, intolerance and ignorance 

WIPs: The sequel to Cinders & Ash entitled Aurora & Sky, and a YA novel called Endless Stars in the Lungs of the Trees

Your OC Backstory: Week 2 Family

Man, I need to get back into my writing groove. I’ve been having trouble writing words lately. So this is my entry for @yourocsbackstory week 2! For friends, I decided to go with an, as of yet not formally introduced character, Sola Eidos! I’ve mentioned him a bit, here or there, on my blog, but I’ve never actually stated who he was. 

This takes place when Fenice is 10 years old. Sola is around 16 or 18.

Sola Eidos is a rather talkative fellow, Fenice thinks. 

Then again, Fenice has precious little to complain about that, starved as she was for a new conversation. And oh did Sola have a lot to talk about. He’s been just about everywhere from what he says. From the golden savannas of Hathur, to the Jewel Islands of Osaelthwi, and he even traveled along the Valurian path! Fenice, on the other hand, could offer no stories of her own. Even her memories of the capital are but a distorted blur. 

But it wouldn’t be good form to have been blessed with Sola’s stories and offer nothing in return. And if there’s one thing Fenice had quite a lot of, are material objects. 

“What’s this, little princess?” 

Placed on his lap is a leather-bound book of the deepest green, decorated in curling gold thread. 

An arcane book.

Sola’s green eyes grew round like saucers, mouth opened in a reverent ‘o’ as his fingers traced the intricate designs. “I--this isn’t something you show willy-nilly, princess,” he swallowed, thumbing the smooth parchment. “Especially to someone like me.”

Fenice pursed her lips. “You like arcana don’t you?” She shifts in her chair, small fingers crinkling the edge of Sola’s blankets. “Besides, I rather think you’ll get much more use of it that I will.”

Sola, of course, insists that his gift is much too valuable for a peasant. Especially for an escaped kyrius. But Fenice is a born princess. What she wants, she gets, and soon enough the boy complies with a quivering smile. The book reverently held against his chest, and emerald eyes shining with a certain something Fenice couldn’t put a name to.

“To you and your mother, I owe a great life debt.” He bowed his head, his dark hair sticking in every which direction. His hand makes a clawing motion across his heart. A symbol that, years later, Fenice will learn as the Fehelise symbol for a promise. “If any of you ever need me, then all you need to do is call.”
