AuthorLifeMonth2020 • Day 25: Motivation • I put this line in a notes app on my phone about 8 years ago. It was a promise to myself, a reminder, to never forget why I write. It would eventually end up as part of the dedication for my debut, NOTHING BUT SKY. • It is my motivation to keep creating stories about women who have passion, drive, and ambition, no matter the time period. It is a push to continue writing the stories I would have loved to have read as a young girl. Set your sights where you want to be. I hit my word count goal this week! 🙌 I would say I finished the novel, but there’s still one chapter I’m thinking about adding in before it’s “done.” Yes, done belongs in quotes. Anyone who writes knows something is never really done. Anyone who has walked this path before, whether for yourself or with someone else, knows there will be many more rounds of editing. There will be adjustments made from critique groups, adjustments made from editors and publishers, and up until it is bound and printed and sitting in my hands, I don’t know if I will ever fully believe these books are done. But for now I’m going to continue on to the next step. I’m going to write the book proposal and then go back and maybe add in that chapter. And then, after all of that is done, I’ll probably take myself out for ice cream or a milkshake or something to celebrate. I want to be one of the greats. So I’m keeping my eyes up where they are. Maybe it’s too bold. Maybe it’s too ambitious. I don’t really care if it’s too anything, though.
