What if a magically inclined character of yours could carve small strange little figurines out of wood (or whatever other materials are available) and then look through said figurines eyes when closing their own.

These figurines if placed outside the carvers home could effectively work as a magical security camerasm

Maybe the eyes of the figurines could be looked through by others with the same ability, unless the carver has the necessary skill to restrict others sight through them.

Oh and if a antagonistic character uses this ability why not have them over rely on it to the point to the point of absurdity.

Perhaps have them work with others, using the eyes of the figurines to locate and send enemies to the protagonists locations almost seeming where they'll go before they do.

Then when one of the protagonists vanishes from their eyes they could start looking through every figurine over and over thinking it'd be impossible to get through network of eyes they have set up around the place.

That is of course before the vanished protagonist becomes un-vanished directly Infront of the oblivious antagonist who has forgotten to check through their own eyes.

Thought of an interesting use for petrification, what if someone used it on themselves defensively.

Like while falling from a great height someone could petrify their own internal organs to prevent them from suffering potentially difficult to repair internal damage.

Or as a less weird example what if someone who's about to get hit with a sharp weapon while not wearing any armour petrifies a portion of their arms to block the attack.

I think if you have Ice magic wielding characters you should have them carry around some fruits so they can flash freeze and throw them at any adversaries they may encounter

and also because they might get hungry and fruits can be a tasty snack

I think a fun way to use a paralysis spell would be to stop a horse during a chase, the sudden change in speed making its rider fall (or perhaps fly if they're not wearing armour) forward off its back.

I think it'd be cool if there was an illusionary spell that caused other people to perceive its castor as the most unimportant uninteresting unmemorable that their mind can imagine.

Just as long as said caster isn't in the direct focus of anyone's vision for too long, as that would likely let them notice all the strange (occasionally physically impossible) imperfections that spell generated when creating the disguise.

CW: Weapons

Why not have a few spells intended for use by those who have very few magic skills.

One could be a simple repulsing blast that knocks back objects and enemies, and maybe if the user decides to learn more about magic it the blast could become even more powerful.

Another could could be a piece of minor telekinesis used to grab small objects that are slightly out of reach, which I think we can all agree is something that would be very useful.

For blade wielding characters they could use a spell that could increase the length and sharpness of their blades without increasing their weight. Also the blades should should glow bright colours when effected by the spell.

You should have a magic attack that fires off is a bouncy ball that gains momentum super rapidly ricocheting around till it eventually hitting whoever the caster thinks of as a target.

Not only could it be a useful and creative method of attacking but it could also be a source of comedy.

As an example imagine a scene where an antagonist and their forces have the protagonists cornered and is doing a whole evil monologue thing. Then in the distance a strange noise is made, then it's made again and again and again, louder and louder each time.

Whatever is making the noise making the noise is getting closer.

By this point a few people have tried to point out this sound to the antagonists only to be told "Do not interrupt me!" Then by the time the agonist finally notices the sound, it's too late.

The ball cast during an earlier scene has just been bouncing around the area for a a while gaining more and more momentum before launching into this scene and hitting the antagonist directly in the head, with enough force to launch them spinning through the air into a wall.

Oh also the ball could like hit an ally because the caster doesn't exactly like them, resulting in an annoyed and confused look from said ally and an embarrassed shrug from the caster.

Casting magic feels like it can be a bit boring sometimes ya know? Like "oooh I'm gonna wiggle a stick about" or "ooooh ahhhh I'm waving an even bigger stick with a rock lodged in it about"and worst of all "I'm gonna stick my hands out an make a big ol' nondescript vague glowy circle that's so you have no idea what I'm about to cast unless like its actively glowing the color of an element."

So like why not instead of those kinda boring methods make it a bit more flashy and engaging, how you may ask? It's very simple, to cast a spell to make the caster have to do a dance.

Now I'm not talking about ritual and ceremonial dances that exist in various forms in various cultures across the world (which I absolutely do not know enough about to discuss without).

What I'm talking about is a far more modern looking far more chaotic and far more aggressive sort of dance that brings about bright colorful glowing shapes and loud sounds before the dance is finally completed and the spell is cast.

And also you know they don't not have to have some device or item to cast the spell from, just make sure to have it involved in the dance casting in some way. Like maybe a fancy glove thing that they have to clap with while doing the spell.

Also hey maybe the reason that everyone in your setting isn't using magic is because not everyone can handle the intensity of dancing like that.

Or maybe your magic casting character just does magic and dances at the same time because they're just like that.
