MAJOR YAP WARNING
ok ok so meteors exist as a medium for shooting stars to channel their power through. they live independently from physical objects, but without a meteor they can't properly control their power. now stepping back from that, shooting stars are the most powerful beings, but all celestial bodies, if alive, have some amount of power, just usually not much. you get bigger, you have more power, blah blah blah you know how it goes. logically you'd think stars would have the second most power, but even then they don't have enough to grant wishes, like shooting stars do.
Most living beings have two parts: their soul, aka their identity, self, being, etc. and their body, or the object they possess. planetary objects are strange and i haven't really figured them out yet but that's not what this is about. Celestial objects, however, have a third component, that being their power. an object's power and soul are firmly linked, and their power is what allows them to live. generally they can use some amount of their power, and what was used will separate from their being and vessel, and kind of just stop existing. i don't know. vague hand gestures. but they don't have a limited supply of power ? i guess ? i suppose instead of having a certain amount of power, imagine it as how strong one is, only one can't become stronger like a mortal can. anyway, there are limits to what celestials can do. if they try to use more power than they have, they won't be able to keep their soul within their body, and with their power, their being will disperse into nothing. now, none of that applies to shooting stars. there might've been a time when they weren't technically alive, but what i'm going with right now is that the "superstition" around wishing on a shooting star is what made them so powerful. i don't have any other ideas so. anyway, shooting stars have enough power that they can project that into a stable enough image to carry their soul, they don't need a body. the price of this is that they need a meteor to channel their power through, or else it's too much for them to comtrol. they can use their power without a meteor, but they can only do about as much as any other celestial object. without a meteor, they can't grant wishes. going back to stars, even as some of the strongest physical objects, they don't have enough power to grant wishes even with a meteor. what can? constellations! they're made up of more than one star, i'm not sure what you were expecting. anyway i know this is a whole bunch of bullshit but bear with me here.
Stel is a large constellation, large in the sense that they have. at least a good six stars i would say. Stel wants to be mortal and live on a planet with other mortals. Stel can't do this on their own, for plot reasons until i figure something out, and the idea of a celestial becoming mortal is incredibly taboo. enter Wish, a shooting star who's on her way to Earth, for plot reasons until i figure something out. i swear i will figure out how the hell it happens, but one way or another, Stel takes Wish's meteor. Wish crashes on Earth and can't focus enough of her power to leave the atmosphere. Stel, a being with just enough power to grant one wish, now has the tool needed to do so. if they are to do that, in theory, they would die, since they only have so much power. but, with the meteor, they can focus their power onto the object whose wish they grant, and instead of dispersing into nothing, their soul will attach to the body of that object. and yeah that's how World's Shortest Puppet Show happens thank you for coming to my ted talk
