Ship; Frank x James (frames? / jank?? / potterbottom!?! / LONGPOTTER?!!!! / prank??????) (as suggested in the notes: bottomchaser)
James thought it was a brilliant idea, suggesting the muggle cinema as a first date. He's been there once with Sirius, last summer, and they saw an action film which was wicked. Frank loves movies, so instantly, James suggested it.
He'd only wanted to impress the bloke he's been crushing on for years. He never thought he'd get a chance, being a whole five years younger and all. But they really hit it off after bumping into one another down the pub, and James actually has a chance!
Though, he's fucking it up right as we speak, sitting here, breaking a sweat in the cinema. Thank Merlin its dark in here.
James never thought sharks would be so terrifying, but they are. They're bloody horrific, the terrors this one shark are committing is just obscene and James doesn't think he's ever going to sleep again. He's certainly never going in the ocean. Goodbye dreams of visiting the seaside, you will be missed.
When Frank gave the option of Jaws or The Exorcist, he really thought Jaws was the right option.
He screams, uncontrollably, when the shark pops up and takes a bite out of an innocent swimmer, hiding himself behind his hands, knees too, having pulled his feet up onto the seat.
"Are you alright?" Frank asked.
James is mortified, he'd been trying so hard to keep his cool, "Why aren't they helping!?" He hissed, "The people holding the camera. They're just recording these horrors! Why would they do this?"
"James..." Frank said, clearly trying to hide his smile.
James screams again, as someone on the screen gets eaten alive.
"James!" Frank can't help but laugh, reaching out to take James' hand to sooth, "It's not real. It's not real. It's all fake. That's a fake shark, and all those people are alive, and that's not real blood, it's just paint."
James blinked, looking at the screen, then back at Frank, "What?"
"Films aren't real, James. It's all made up, like a book, but you can watch it."
James can't believe his ears. It's really quite soothing to know he's not witnessing live murder, but it's still bloody terrifying, no less, "Bloody hell."
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Frank whispered, giving James' hand a firm squeeze. "Do you want to go?"
"It's okay..." He breathed, laughing at himself a little, "I'm okay, I'll be okay."
"Alright." Frank smiled, sitting back in his chair, "Let me know if you get too scared though, it's so realistic I don't blame you for thinking that."
"O-okay." James swallowed, "Maybe we can get some ice cream after?"
"I think that's a great idea." Frank smiled, and they continued to watch the movie.
Frank didn't let go of James' hand. His heart rabbited in his chest, not from the fear of the movie now, but for the man beside him. He wasn't even watching the film anymore, and Frank must have noticed, because at one point he let go of James' hand, lifted the armrest between them, and pulled James into his side. And there they were, cuddling in the cinema, watching the most horrifying thing James has ever seen, with the man of his dreams running his hands through James' hair, soothing him through all the scary bits.
Maybe Jaws was the perfect choice after-all.
