So, I actually had to sit on this for a little while, but I think it would be super neat if reader was a monster biologist (that HAS to be a profession that exists in dunmeshi). Or, at least, a monster biology hobbyist.
You and Laios originally met while you were observing the Big Bats on the second floor! Neither of you were looking where you were going and you physically ran into each other
Laios, of course, didn’t take it too hard. In fact, he noticed that you were looking at the hollowed out trees.
“You’re looking at the Big Bat nests.” It came out more like a statement than a question.
You smiled at him and explained that you’d come to the dungeon to observe the behaviors and habits of the monsters in it.
You told him that you were currently trying to observe the colony habits of Big Bats, if they were any different in the dungeon than they were on the surface.
My god this man has never warmed up to someone so quickly.
I imagine you two met a little bit before Falin was eaten
To be completely honest, you were one of the first people to pop into his head when they were preparing to head back down into the dungeon
He begged the others to let you tag along— “They know so much about monsters! They’d be a big help!”
Chilchuck and Marcille were dubious. They weren’t sure they could handle two monster enthusiasts in one party.
However, they eventually agreed because… Laios had a point. Maybe you’d be able to help them figure out how to defeat the Red Dragon.

You fell first, he fell harder, but he didn’t realize it for forEVER.
You guys could literally talk for HOURS about monsters but gods does he love listening to you talk. Half the time, he won’t even fully be paying attention, he’ll just watch the way your eyes light up and the way you gesticulate with your hands when you talk about the imitative patterns of species like dryads and mimics.
Plus, you’re the only one who seems to genuinely care about his own tangents
He doesn’t even seem to notice that he’s being romantic, he just thinks he’s being a good friend.
… if being a good friend meant sitting shoulder-to-shoulder in the late hours of the night, reading his monster guide together with your faces so close you were practically sharing breath.
It is literally painful for the others to watch— and even Chilchuck, who has been especially vocal about in-party romance being a bad idea, can’t bear to watch you two being so OBVIOUSLY SMITTEN FOR EACH OTHER.
It legitimately gets to the point where you two start stealing bits off food off each others’ plates and the other will just affectionately roll their eyes at the little mischievous smile the other gives them
This would eventually all come to a head when you— utterly smitten for this handsome nerd— sat Laios down while the others were off gathering ingredients for soup.
“Laios, I need to tell you something. It’s really important. I like you.”
He’d smile that charming, kind smile at you. “Oh, I like you too! You’re probably one of my best friends and I really enjoy how we can talk about monsters together an—…”
You place your hands on his shoulders. Or, rather, his Pauldrons. “Laios, no. I— I like you. Like—“
His brows tick in a furrow as he watches your cheeks begin to flush.
“Laios. I’m in love with you.”

“I…”at first, he doesn’t know what to say, but as you begin to profusely apologize and pull away, he reaches out and grabs your hands before he can even think better of it.
“I like you too.” The words come out softer than they usually would have, but with you? He doesn’t mind it. “You… don’t think I’m weird when I start talking about monster stuff. You… gosh, you engage with it. You’re so smart about that kind of stuff and I love talking with you…”
He swallows hard and looks at you with those amber eyes that had you smitten whole. “I love you.”
You smile at him and lace your fingers with his own. “I’m glad.”

“Are you sure you know how to use those?” Sal’s
apprehension was clear with how much his hands
fiddled with the hem from his Sanity's Fall band-tee.
He rarely trimmed his own bangs, and when he did, it
usually ended with a blue mess of unevenly cut hair in
the sink and a clogged drain he didn’t feel like digging
out with his fingers.
“Sal, their scissors. Not rocket science.” You peered at
Sal through the scissors separated blades, watching
him readjust his position on the bathroom countertop.
He had unbuckled his prosthetic hours ago, but it still
remained glued to his side. The silicone face rested
facing up right on top of the bathroom counter, the
buckles splayed out.
He had taken a shower before this, his hair still
dripping in the front where his uneven bangs rested
over his face.
“I mean, hair grows back right?” His finger curled
itself around a longer section of his bangs that covered
where his eye would be.
“It does. So do you trust me?” Your head tilted, as your
gaze lingered on him before falling down to where
Gizmo sprawled, relaxed on his lap. If he stretched out
any further and he would slip off and onto the tiled
floor. Cats were agile, just not Gizmo. Too spoiled.
“Of course I do.” He didn’t sound very sure of himself.
The water from his dampen hair dripped down from
his finger to his wrist, as he squeezed the curls
beneath his fingertips.
“Right, I’ll get started then.” A short breath of
amusement slipped from your lips, as you made your
way between his legs. Eye level now, it was easier to
see where he needed a good trim. His uneven bangs
covered where his glass eye would normally be seen,
and below that was his skin. Deep and intricate lines
traversed across his cheek and forehead, no
subtleness but all unconventional beauty. Your fingers
pinched between strands of hair, slowly trimming
away at the ends.
Sal peered up at you, too nervous to jostle around and
risk messing you up. But he couldn’t help the way his
heart thumped in his chest a little quicker than normal.
He couldn’t help the way his eyes lingered on your lips
more than necessary, or the way his fingers were
itching to meet yours and intertwine.

Mello wasn’t a tender man. He was more of a domineering one, though he tended to be a bit more lax with you during the moments when you and he were being a bit too cozy on the couch.
A single rectangle broken off of Mello’s already half-eaten chocolate bar got slid past his lips to rest on his tongue, and it was already melted down to coat his wet appendage with a wonderfully cocoa-flavored taste by the time his mouth met yours for a hot makeout session.
