Amazing X-Men 1 homage by Paolo Rivera! Wow!
First couple times I watched that first X-flick had me wondering how repeatedly booting Wolvie's adamantium skull didn't fuck up Mystique's lower legs a bit. Then again, given the injuries we see her recover from over these films I guess that shapechanging also rapid heals in a pinch. Handy.
I don't think she does rapid heal. She ends the movie getting stabbed by Wolverine, which permanently takes her out of the fight.
She shapeshifts into a cop so that the emergency responders will pull her out of there and give her medical care, and starts impersonating Senator Kelly from there. But if she could have just got right back up and kept fighting, I imagine she would have.
I think the movie just... didn't really engage with the reality that punching Wolverine should feel like punching a metal slab. We hear metal "THUNK" sounds when he's punching the guy in the cage fight at the start, but when the guy's hitting him, it's just normal flesh slapping.
Even the guy's complaint afterward is that Logan isn't bloody from his hits rather than that... y'know... He's been punching a metal wall. Which you would think he would notice.
From "X-Men" in The X-Men #1, September 1963. Stan Lee script, Jack Kirby pencils, Paul Reinman inks, Sam Rosen letters.
