So as it's always been, I have a random idea. Again.
So here's me reading Merlin fics while Xena: the Warrior Princess is playing on the side.
You can see here where this is going pretty fast.
But I question myself, how can I combine these two shows when OCD mind keeps reminding me that Xena was in ancient Greece and Merlin is around the Middle Ages.
In this time of uncertainty I turn to my brother who bestows his great wisdom which is "What are you talking about now??" which then leads me to my sisters words of "I don't Know... Neither were historically accurate."
Which, was a very valid point that I can use to my advantage!✨
And now, now I've got it!
✨ ~ Merlin timetravels ~ ✨
So to have my idea of an epic crossover between two beloved childhood shows (yes I watch xena as a kid, my dad's a fan and got me into it. No Regrets.) Merlin must timetravel.
And the reason is fairly obvious.
Arthur is dead, and has been dead for quite a long time. Merlin is depressed and waiting for his beloved king until he can't wait anymore.
He caves in and trys to go back in time but in very Merlin fashion, over shoots his shot.
He ends up too far back and unprepared for the amount of crazy that was before his time.
He has to face all this wild magic and magic creatures that were basically extinct in his time along with the fact that gods had Alot more involvement with people then he expected.
And that he was unhappily one of them too.
Yeah, he did not like involving himself with other gods.
He couldn't find a way to move forwards in time, seeing as he kinda just erased everything with his stunt so, oops. The end result being the first solution, waiting.
Yup, waiting. At least this time Merlin actually knew when his King would raise, or born in this case. He just needed patience.
...
He gave that a solid century before saying fuck it, and stabbed Excalibar in a stone and told the people of The Once and Future King being able to pull the sword from the stone. With some major enchantments here and there, he packed his bags and was off Albion soil by the weeks end.
Seeing this as an opportunity to explore the familar but different lands, Merlin decides he'll extend his knowledge even further and understand his magic and more.
He ends up making a name for himself as a kind and miraculous healer. Going from town to town healing and aiding those in need wherever he can.
In Alot of cases, he butted heads with the gods in other regions gaining a reputation from the higher ups. They try to get rid of him, but know better that Emrys cannot be killed or rid of. Afterall, even the gods use a divine magic.
And it's in his very names sake, Emrys, Immortal, nothing can kill him, and he's tried before. Not even a blade forged in dragons breath.
So the gods can't get rid of him, but they have attempted to imprisoned, enslave, heck even seduce him.
None worked, but it always kept Merlin engaged and less bored. He forgot how much fun it was to be a nuisance to others. It's especially the topping on the cake with obnoxious gods and occasional magic users who've fucked with his life the first time around.
So at some point early on in the series, Xena dies (I'm told this is just the first of many lol) and they were in the middle of a mission. Gabrielle was sorrowful, sure, but she sucked it up and put her best foot forward. She tried to complete what Xena had started, I assume how she thought Xena would go about it. She was sad, duh, but she got back to business. A few episodes later Gabs dies For the first time and Xena is beside herself. The mighty, fearsome warrior is in her knees, openly weeping. She is bitting the heads off of anyone who dares tell her Gabrielle is gone. She's a complete and absolute mess. I say all that to say Xena really needs Gabrielle. She was alone in her self pity for so long. All the wrong and evil she did in the past has left gaping wounds in her. Every single thing she does is to right those wrongs. To make decisions that help ppl and not hurt ppl. But she doesn't see herself as "good." She doesn't think of herself as honorable or as a hero, not after everything she's done. Her days a just filled with loneliness and wars. Then... Gabrielle comes along and she knows about Xena's past (WHO doesn't) but she sees Xena for who she is in the present. And she has no ill thoughts of her or who she used to be. She's enamored by Xena and that soon turns into a mentorship. That soon blossoms into friendship. And Xena had no idea how good it felt to no longer feel loneliness until Gabrielle filled those holes inside her. None of this is Gabs' responsibility, not at all, it's just that Xena really needs her by her side. So that she isn't alone with her demons and the ghosts of her mistakes. Not when Gabs makes her feel like she has to have at least something redeemable about herself if this sweet, good-natured, kind, generous, loving, compassionate woman looks at her like that. She can't be all bad, not when she looks in those eyes and sees the unfiltered, unabashed admiration. And then.... Then Gabrielle is married and leaving her and she kisses her lips and has to hug her goodbye.
So some time after finishing XWP I looked up Hercules episodes with Xena.I have never watched these series and it's the first time I saw the intro.
Can we please take a moment to appreciate the fact it says "only one man dared to challenge their (gods') power" meanwhilee Xana not only does just that many times, without being half-god but it's also fuckin Xena who ends up killing most of the Olympians.
Like, she canonically outdid him in his fuckin job.
There are only a few candidates (Maxanne, Shoot, Harlivy, Rosewaves)... but I have to give it up to the greatest of all time: Gabrille/Xena. They were SO MUCH. I need to rewatch that show soon, too. Maybe after Galavant.
Favourite foe yay ship
[Caption: Mila Kunis saying in mock indignation “ONE? ONE? Have you lost your mind? One.”]
Seriously, how do you expect me to choooooooose *sighs*
I have to pick Batcat, though. I have to xD
Ship that you have kinda love/hate relationship with
Hmm. I’m trying to think of one where my love/hate is strictly about its own canon content; aka, not about outside BTS influences, the shippers behaving like assholes, the way it interacts with a third character, etc. xD. Hmm.
It doesn’t go as far as “hate” but I’d say the best example of “mixed feelings” ship for me is Eleanor/Max. It’s a dynamic I LOVE, that I find incredibly interesting, and after s4 I’d say I do “ship” it (as much as I consider what I do in this show shipping? It goes ~beyond that lol)... and at the same at any given moment of the show, even with information beforehand, I kept thinking “please, please never get back together” xDD
I’m rewatching Xena and I’m currently watching been there done that and cracking up about how much like her mothers eve is. She’s all peaceful and loving and faithful like a mini Gabrielle, but then the reporter pushed her and xena came out real fast
baroquemirrors replied to your post “Oh shit. I think I just found my reboot!Callisto”
???
Lindy Booth. She's on The Librarians right now, and there was something about the way she moved in this last episode that just really reminded me of Callisto.
I couldn't get a good image of her in the season finale, but this is episode 5.
The cool thing about her is that she tends to play these excitable, nerdy...almost childlike characters, but when she's playing dark and angry, it comes off almost sinister. I'd just really like to see what she would do with a role like Callisto.
