Congratulations to artist Xenobia Bailey for being featured as one of 42 esteemed women in Malaika Adero’s new book “A Black Woman Did That”, in which Xenobia, illustrated by Chanté Timothy stands proudly in front of her #MTAArts “Funktional Vibrations” (2015) at the 34th Street Hudson Yards (7) station. The book spotlights inspiring black women whose accomplishments have changed the world for the better and we’re thrilled Xenobia is included!

“Le Metro de la Reine”, the Queen’s Subway, is an adaptation of Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun’s portrait of Queen Marie-Antoinette in the Hameau de la Reine in Versailles, 1783. Hudson Yards subway station is the portrait’s new setting, with Xenobia Bailey’s glass mosaic as its sky. It’s International Museum Day, and we’re proud of ours!  “The most under-rated art museum in New York is the subway”, wrote New York Times arts reporter Randy Kennedy in 2011. New York’s Underground Art Museum is open to everyone 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Explore close to 300 subway, Metro North and LIRR stations that are home to world-class art !

Newly opened!  Radiant mosaics featuring mandalas, starbursts and a winged creature greet subway riders at the just-opened entrance to the 34th Street-Hudson Yards (7) station at West 35th Street. This is the final segment of Xenobia Bailey’s masterful creation of glass mosaics at the station. The 750 sq. ft addition was timed in conjunction with the building above ground, as the new entrance will serve the growing community’s office and residential population.  In its entirety, “Funktional Vibrations”, fabricated by Miotto Mosaics, spans 3,000 sq. ft., bringing a cosmic burst of energy and joy to the station architecture.
