speak up about the hate crimes against asian americans

whether or not you are in america or another country, the words need to be spread and i will be so entirely grateful to you if you reblog this post. whether you have one hundred followers or one, it doesn't matter.

since the up-rise in covid cases, there has been major discrimination against asians in america. this including murder, bigotry, sexual assault and hate crimes against asian americans. this has only started to become a major problem in the past few months (it has always been a problem, but people have taken the pandemic as a chance to spew their racist, bigoted and oppressive beliefs and aggression), but it's starting to drastically go up in ranks.

as a white american woman, i stand with those who are being oppressed, as it would be hypocritical of me as a fan and educator of asian culture to not speak up about such matters. if you are a fan of any asian person, have it be kpop, jpop, cpop, tpop or any other asian during this time, please spread this information shared below. if you have any benefit from asian culture (anime, kpop, ramen, anything) then spread this information to spread awareness of the terrible things happening in both my own country and others.

racism is never something to be tolerated. ever. the spread of information and educating people on such matters will help resolve this.

there's so much more than this came from. if you have the time, i wholeheartedly ask for you to research these matters to help educate yourself and others.

as a kpop fan, anime geek and a friend of many asian americans, please spread this information. this is important for not only me, but for all of us.

Anti-Asian hate crimes have risen by nearly 150% in major US cities since last year, thanks to the prejudice against them  during the COVID-19 pandemic and as a result, 8 just LOST their lives due to a racist shooting in Atlanta

Let’s get one thing clear.

I. AM. NOT. SENSITIVE.

I am not offended by “China Virus”. I am furious by the ignorance. I am scared of the violence that’s been unleashed on Asian American’s ever since Covid started. I am worried and concerned for my Asian American friends across the nation. I am tired of explaining to people WHY this is a problem.

You claim I’m “overreacting”????? Tell that to my friends who get harassed on the subway. Tell that to my friends who get harassed when hey go out anywhere. Tell that to the glances and the threats we get. Tell that to the way it feels to have “CORONAVIRUS” screamed at you. Tell that to my friends friend who had a BRICK WITH A FORTUNE COOKIE TAPED TO IT THROWN THROUGH HER WINDSHIELD. Tell that to all the Asian American’s who have been beaten, bruised and bloody.

If the racism towards Asian Americans didn’t spike the second Covid happened then it wouldn’t be as bad. But the fact that the President is oblivious to the damage his words have on us is an extremely huge problem.

The fact that he said “China” in a mocking tone when asked why he calls it that shows he doesn’t care. The fact that he CROSSED OUT COVID ON A DOC TO WRITE “CHINA” above it is a problem.

My friend told me that in epl (England pro soccer league) theres this player who's Korean, his name is Son Heung Min and people from opposing teams have said something racist, or made stupid asian eyes at him and they are LITERALLY BANNED FROM THE STADIUM FOREVER AND ARE IN JAIL!

If a soccer league gets it and you can’t then I am done trying to explain (Matthew 7:6 and all that)

The people who are truly friends of mine understand before I even bring it up.

I have no desire to keep people in my life that fight me on this and I have no desire to compromise on this issue.

I am angry crying as I write this and I deserve better friends and people behind me.

Asian American’s all over the world deserve better.

South African president condemns anti-foreigner violence

Five killed and businesses attacked in wave of violence against immigrants

Police in South Africa are struggling to contain an outbreak of violence against foreigners in major cities that has claimed five lives, ruined dozens of businesses and brought condemnation from other African countries.

President Cyril Ramaphosa condemned the violence on Tuesday and said he was calling in ministers with responsibility for security “to make sure that we keep a close eye on these acts of wanton violence and find ways of stopping them”.

“The people of our country want to live in harmony; whatever concerns or grievances we may have, we need to handle them in a democratic way. There can be no justification for any South African to attack people from other countries,” Ramaphosa said.

The violence started on Sunday when a protest march against drug-dealing by local residents in the centre of Johannesburg blamed on immigrants degenerated, with shops attacked and looted.

The violence spread to the nearby city of Pretoria, where mobs attacked immigrant traders, workers and shopkeepers on Monday.

More than 90 people were arrested after looting shops and damaging property in Johannesburg and surrounding areas, said a government statement.

There were further outbreaks of looting overnight in the poor township of Alexandra, in north-eastern Johannesburg.

Alexandra’s usually busy streets were deserted on Tuesday morning, strewn with rocks, bricks, looted goods and spent rubber bullets. Clashes between armed police and crowds of young men continued through the morning ahead of a scheduled meeting between officers and community leaders.

Elias Mawela, the police commissioner for Gauteng province, which includes Pretoria and Johannesburg, said investigators were searching for the leaders fuelling the violence.

There have been many similar outbreaks of violence in South Africa, where many nationals blame immigrants for high unemployment, particularly in manual labour. More than 60 migrants were killed in one series of attacks in 2008.

South Africa is a major destination for economic migrants from the southern Africa region, with many moving from neighbouring Lesotho, Mozambique and Zimbabwe in search for work. There are also large Somali and Nigerian communities in South Africa.

President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria summoned the South African high commissioner on Tuesday to complain about the treatment of his country’s citizens and to seek reassurances that their lives and property would be protected.

Buhari is due to make a state visit to South Africa later this year.

Campaigners have blamed senior officials in both the ruling African National Congress party and the opposition Democratic Alliance for stoking anti-immigrant feeling.
