Zahara story..work in progress:)
I was waiting by the park, concealed by an evergreen shrub when I saw them pass by. Two teenage boys chatting absentmindedly about a-level course work, girls they liked, laughing and joking and all that. As I peered over, I could see that the taller boy was long and lanky, his long fingers texting on an iphone which rested on the palm of his hand. This would have to be extremely quick. I ran behind them.. 'Look over there!' I screamed pointing in the opposite direction. Suitably distracted, I used my opportunity and grabbed the sleek phone from his hand deftly.
He hardly noticed, it was so quick but the other boys had me sussed so I started running across the darkened park.
'She nicked your phone! ' he said with disgust and started running after me. I'd had a head start, but he was quick ....
Shit, he's so much bigger than me, don't rob someone you can't run away from. That's the golden rule. At least I knew the park pretty well. I ran for a wall that I could easily climb over and hoped that he wasn't as good at climbing as me...
He was very close now, the other boys hot on his heels too but I was nearly at the wall. I turned as I was about to climb.
' Zahara?' it was a boy from my school, Damon a boy I remembered well, a boy I'd fancied for a while, just before everything happened it felt like we might get together. I felt a sudden sense of overwhelming shame, I stood on the wall and I hurled the phone with all my might back the direction I had came .
'Zahara what the hell?' using his shock to my advantage, I scrambled over the wall.
'Zahara! Zahara are you okay?' he continued to shout but I had escaped and I ran from the park. That was a really close scrape, I'd been really stupid. My next mission would be finding somewhere safe to sleep that night.
'Harvey that was Zahara! '
Harvey raised his eyebrow cynically. 'Missing for 6 months Zahara? Dude, I don't even think that was a girl! What you been smoking? '
Zahara had been in my class since secondary school right up until last year when she went missing. I wondered what had happened to her every day. She was a prefect, really sensible, loved school, the kind of girl who didn't just disappear without a trace...
She was one of those girls who's distinctly feline. Cheek bones just a little too high, quizzical brows painted over her green cat eyes. Shy..and really really smart.
