why am I thinking about Yai giving Fox a big old container of neon pink playdo that matches her hair so that he can squeeze it when he's nervous/has stiff hands/doesn't know what to do with his hands
Rence tilts her chin up, a signal that someone's behind him.
He turns to find Yai Kando, almost as tall as he is in stilettos, though he knows from hours curled together in her dressing room that she usually has to stretch up on tiptoe to kiss his cheek. He also knows that she has what Stone would call an 'attitude' and a 'mouth'. So he raises an eyebrow and waits.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't Foxy with the moxie," she purrs, a laissez-faire grin spreading at his scowl.
"Don't ever say that again," he says flatly, not wanting to encourage her.
She laughs and raises her hand. Slowly, she's always slower with him than with anyone else, but not in the wary-of-a-wild-animal way that other natborns so often are. Like she doesn't want him to be wary of her.
Her fingers brushing gently through his curls feels like a warm bed at the end of a double shift. When her hand comes to rest against his cheek, he leans into it, his eyes drifting closed for a moment before he steps back and squares his shoulders.
"Good evening, Ms Kando."
"Always so formal, Foxy." She smiles a little, in that sad-edged way that he so often sees. "Can't I ever get you to call me Yai?"
"Maybe if you behave for once."
He's surprised by her laugh, and by the fact that he almost likes it.
