g-d on the subject of that last post... sure the war is rough beforehand but it isn’t until year three where the stability really just. disappears.
sky bought into vynara’s plan and abandoned her vod’e, ships that void let burst and doodle (who’s now captain since skys. not present) control on some off mission were overrun and both of them are dead as far as void knows. they lose even more people when they try to accomplish what they meant the other group to do and theyre successful, but at what cost? void just. goes back to their old self. theyre not the void they became, theyre just a shell. yeetir leaves without telling anyone, and only sun has the idea that yeetirs gone because he was the last one sun saw before she passed out mid battle, his last service as himself was to stabilize sun. sun is alone without doodle, yeetir, or void. flickers struggling to manage everyone, and hardly calls sky anymore with how busy theyve become (though admittedly most of the work now is self assigned because they dont want to think.) vynaras playing with the dark side, and breaking void further. yeetir comes back, but at what cost? he was caught, and only stuck with his number, 4700.
it’s a whole mess
"Ey, Winter, the gremlin got in the office again."
Winter glances over to see Sunny carrying Sky over xeir shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Sky, for his part, is enjoying the ride immensely judging by the way he's giggling and kicking his feet.
Sunny tucks the four-year-old carefully to xer chest before flopping down on the couch, xer hand patting Sky's back once they've landed.
"I thought he was your gremlin on Tuesdays," Winter comments, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Excuse you, we have a shared custody agreement 24/7," Sunny says, not sounding the least bit insulted. Instead xe scrunches xer face up and sticks xer tongue out at Sky, who giggles again and then promptly headbutts xer.
They've been teaching him to keldabe kiss, or at least been trying. Sky is faster and more excitable than any of them, and hasn't quite gotten the 'gentle' part down yet.
Winter knows that none of them mind. The twins had been quiet when they first arrived four months ago. Barely spoke, never laughed, just stared at the adults and clung to each other.
Sunny's become one of their favourites, since. With xer neon hair and constant smile, xe was the first to get a laugh out of Silver. And once he started to trust the adults, Sky wasn't far behind. That he went and searched out a buir on his own...
Winter's so very proud of him.
"You want me to take him?" he asks instead.
"Have you had a rabies shot lately?"
Winter rolls his eyes.
"What happened to shared custody?"
"You've gotta get him away from me, first. What do you think, shiny, should we tackle Winter or make a run for it?"
"Run, run!" Sky demands excitedly.
"All right, up we go!"
Sunny bounces up from the couch, making airplane noises as xe swooshes Sky overhead. He shrieks in a way that Winter used to think meant he was being eaten by a wild animal, but has since recognised as a sign of pure delight.
He smiles to himself and checks the screen of the tablet next to him. Silver's napping off the last day or so of a flu, which is probably why Sky went looking for Sunny instead of staying with Bee. He's been miserable the entire time he's been separated from his twin. Winter's glad that Sunny can ease that.
When he steps over to the window to check on them, half an hour later, they're both utterly entranced by a dragonfly resting on Sunny's foot. He smiles to himself. Yeah, he was going to call them in for lunch, but it won't hurt them to take their time.
He does get a pair of krispie treats from the cabinet above the fridge, where all the adults pretend not to know that the cookies are kept. It will no doubt make Sky screech all over again, to see his favourite, but Winter can live with that.
He texts Star to ask if he's coming over for dinner later, and goes back to browsing for wedding rings.
