You huffed, quickly entering the house and shutting the door behind you. Snow had never been kind to you- for all that it was pretty, it made for numb fingers and a stinging nose.
”Shit,” you huffed, pulling off your gloves and clenching your hands into fists. You clumsily toed off your shoes and shoved them closer to the wall, leaving the genkan and traveling further into the house.
“Yata-kun, I’m home.” You called, flipping on the kitchen light and blinking away the white sheen that came with the sudden brightness flooding the room.
The only warning you get is the sound of quick footfalls barreling towards you before you stumble backward, spluttering from the sudden impact of someone’s full weight.
Yata’s arms snake around your middle, his loud laughs making your own laughter bubble up. “Welcome home!” He cheered, smiling wide. You giggled at his excitement, quickly returning his hug and pushing him away so you could regain your footing.
“Excited, huh?” You teased, eyeing the way he practically vibrated with energy.
“Hell yeah! You’ve been gone all day, so I’ve been sitting around like a loser,” he huffed, peeved at the reminder. You shot him a fond look and hip-checked him as you passed, motioning for him to follow you into the kitchen.
“You could’ve gone out, you know. I just had some work things to finish up.” You hummed, opening the fridge and out the container of cut watermelon. grabbing two forks, you set the bowl on the bar and handed Yata the other when he sat on the opposite side of the bar, settling into one of the stools you had. You settled on leaning on the counter, arms crossed to support yourself as you both started sharing the watermelon.
He quickly munched on a piece, “I went skating for a bit, but everyone else was busy.” His words were muffled by the fruit in his mouth, and you grimaced at the sight of him almost failing to catch the juice that threatened to drip out of his mouth. You laughed and shook your head, finishing your watermelon piece before speaking.
“Yeah, that’s fair. The office was almost empty except for me and a few others in my branch.” You hummed, stabbing another piece with your fork. He nodded, doing the same with his own. His face lit up, and he looked back up, pointing his fork at your face.
“Oh, hey! I got your gift today. Not to brag or anything, but I’d say it’s the best ever.” He said smugly, sending a smug grin. You narrowed your eyes and smiled, leaning closer.
“Woah, really? What’d you get?” You said, excitement lacing your tone. Yata nodded and leaned closer, too, clearly pleased with himself.
“You’ll love it. It’s a-” Yata stops short, jolting from the shock of what he almost fell for. Your grin turned sharp, and Yata scowled, a pink blush making itself known across his cheeks.
”That’s a cheap trick, bastard!” He huffed, embarrassed. You laughed and straightened, unable to keep from reacting to Yata’s pouting expression.
”Sorry, Yata-kun. You’re just too easy.” You sighed, watching Yata roll his eyes with a huff.
“Yeah, yeah. Don’t pull that crap,” he whined, a smile pulling at his pout. You nodded, quickly munching on a watermelon piece before answering.
”Scouts honor, or whatever.” You shrugged, amused by Yata’s grumbling acceptance as he continued to eat the fruit in front of him.
“I have your gift, too. It’s in my room- just haven’t put it under the tree yet.” You said, grinning when the disgruntled furrow on the other’s brow practically melted away. He straightens in his chair, satisfied.
“We’re just good at Christmas like that.” He huffed, chest puffed. You sat in silence for a beat, blinking blankly at him. Yata blinks back, still posturing ridiculously.
You both break into giggles, Yata’s silly act falling away. You snicker and gasp, quickly trying to regain composure.
”Okay, okay, whew.” You muttered, fanning your face. Yata is similarly regulating his breathing, face down on the counter. His shoulders shake up and down silently. “Real. So real.” You finally agree, laughing lightly. Yata lifts his head and nods, sufficiently calm again.
“Hey, wanna watch that show you like?” He said, hopping off of the stool. You moved to pick up the watermelon bowl and nodded, both of them moving away from the kitchen and into the living room.
“Titan Blitz?”
“That’s the one with the big human things right?”
“Yeah, Yata-kun.”
“Then yes, it’ll make me cry though.”
“Then why do you watch it?”“It’s good!”

It was a Friday night and the HOMRA decided tonight was a good night to have a little get together and hang out at their home bar for a little relaxation and fun. Food, music, beer pong. Even the Red King decided to come down and watch all his clansmen relax for the night. Everyone seemed a little on edge lately and this would be good for everyone.
You giggled mindlessly as you watched Rikio and Yō chug their beers to see who could drink it faster. Winner got $50 and the loser had to patrol. You leaned over and rested your head on your boyfriend's shoulder and snaked your arms around his bicep, hugging it snuggly. Yata turned to you and furrowed his brows. He learned that almost everytime you did this it meant that you were sleepy... or wanted his attention.
"Are you tired?" Yata asked. You bit his shoulder lightly and smiled.
"No, I miss you."
"But I'm right here you weirdo" Yata said trying not to smile at your cuteness. You had a few drink in your system so you were more clingy than usual. Not that Yata minded he secretly liked the attention from you.
"Let's get out of here."
_______
"Are you staying here with me for the night?" You asked Yata as he leaned with his back against the wall next to your door. He watched you as you sat on your heels and made grabby hands towards him. He pushed himself off the wall to come over to you, standing at the edge of your bed.
"Hi." Your hands eased their way to his shoulders and you smiled cutely at him making direct eye contact. You two had come a hell of a long way considering the first time he met you he couldn't even look at you in your eyes without gettig flustered.
"What's up, kid?" He asked. You rolled your eyes and laughed lightly.
"Kid? I'm older than you." You poked his chest.
"By a couple months."
"bY a cOuplE moNthS" You mocked him and he laughed lightly putting his hands around your sensitive neck.
"You're annoying as fuck." Yata said leaning in to kiss your lips lightly. You pulled away and wrapped your arms around his neck pulling him down into the bed with you. You were latched onto him like a baby koala bringing him down onto the bed with you.
"You're not going anywhere punk." You're voice was muffled as you snuggled your head in his neck.
"Fuck, I'm stuck with you." He said but still wrapped his arms around you.
This was a vent because I’m still not over Mikoto’s death so this is terrible
Everything went deaf in your ears, a sick feeling filling your chest as you fell to the hard ground. The Blue stood tall, his saber stained red. You feel a sharp pain erupt in your abdomen, shouting in response. Your surrounding became clearer as you look around, HOMRA and the Blue’s seemed to be oblivious.
“Benzai!″ You look to your left and see Bondou attack this Benzai guy, catching him off guard. Bondou gives you a glance as he holds off Benzai’s attacks, and you slowly nod, forcing yourself on your knees. You barely took a step with an explosion knocked you forward. “Ah! Son of a-”
A hand grabs your shoulder, “(Y/n), are you hurt?!” Benzai slowly picks you off the ground again, and you hold your shoulder, “I-I..no, just a scrape, I’m fine.” Benzai stayed by your side, helping you fend off the enemy clan - which wasn’t so easy.
But everything stopped when a man, who you remembered is The Black Dog, orders everyone to stop and evacuated the school island. Yata was the first to insult him, obviously, followed by Fushimi and a few other Blue’s. “I never solving this with words would prove difficult..” He sighs.
“We’ll go!” You shout before the words processed in your head, earning everyone’s attention. Yata gasps, already red-faced. “What?! No, we’re staying right here, until Mr. Mikoto gives orders. I won’t leave our King! How could you say that, (Y/n)!” The teen shouts, and you glare. “Mikoto will return, he’d want us to be safe... We are HOMRA, but what is the point if we all die just staying here? You could fight off the island if it helps your ego, Yata.”
“Look around, at who we’ve lost.” You look at Yatogami, who stared back, and walked over to him. The others watched in surprise when you give a bow, “I’m sorry we’re a trouble, Black Dog. We will go in peace. I’m.. quite tired anyway.” There was a shout from behind, and you turn to see Rikio carrying Yata and Fushimi on his shoulders, already walking away as they shout in protest.
You give a smile. “We don’t have much time.” Yatogami says, now beside you. You nod, moving your hand from your shoulder and see red on your fingers, “Damn. I’ll guide everyone out,” He watches as you walk away, waving your arm in retreat before HOMRA follows close behind. A few were hesitant, but left nonetheless.
You collapse on the ground when everyone was safe, staring off into the distance at the two swords in the sky. Anna was beside you, bright eyes wide in worry for the King. You didn’t show your own distress, mainly because you knew what will come of your Red King.
“Mikoto! Mikoto, hold up!” You run after the man, catching your breath quickly as you look up at Mikoto. A cigarette hung from his lips, and you sigh, “King, you should stop smoking..it’s going to end up killing you.”
He stops mid-step, and after a moment he looks down at you. He saw the care in your eyes, and the worry that never seemed to leave you. You always were the cautious one. “C’mon, Mikoto.” You grin, “Don’t smoke. We can’t have our King leaving us, right? I mean, lung cancer is a terrible way to die..”
“..Yeah.” He shrugs. “Have you been feeling alright? I can’t help but feel bad, like something is going to happen-” Mikoto surprises you by placing a hand on your head, making your cheeks turn pink. “Quite worrying. It’’ll work out in the end.” A smile was barely evident on his face, and you nod.
You close your eyes just as an explosion raddled the ground, the school island surrounded by smoke. “Mikoto!” Anna screams, making you sit up. You look at her and see the tears in her eyes. Your weak arm reaches out to her, and she turns to you, before falling in your embrace.
Breathing became difficult, and you feel her arms around your shoulders. “Anna..don’t cry.” You whisper, hand patting her head, just as Mikoto did not long ago. “You’ll make a great King..” The girl pulls away and looks at you, realizing your eyes were clouded and your breathing was slow. She looked down and seen the large blood stain hidden by your (f/c) jacket. “(Y/n)!”
This catches Izumo’s attention, along with a few others. Yata was instantly next to Anna, looking with wide eyes. “Hi, Yata.” You sigh, “I’m sorry. I just thought..Mikoto would have wanted y-you all safe.” Tears filled his eyes before you could blink. Everyone watched on as you stared at the dark sky, “Mikoto..”
“Shut up!..Don’t talk, you’ll be okay! Don’t leave us, too..it’s not fair.” Yata cries, even as he tried to hold back his pain, and you could see it in his eyes. “Y-Yata, I know you’ll make us p-proud. You too, Anna. Mr. Kusanagi..”
Izumo stares at you, with a look you couldn’t pin-point. “N-no blood..” You smile, “No bone, no ash.”
“No blood, no bone, no ash!” Someone repeats from the crowd. You look to see Rikio, “No blood! No bone! No ash!” Benzai. Then, those words were all you could hear. Yata watches as the life leaves your eyes, before he pulls you away from Anna and holds you close. His face in your shoulder, he cries. He finds comfort in the little warmth your body gave off, but he doesn’t let go even after it’s gone. Forever.
