rules: list five things that you, WITHOUT FAIL, weave into or explore in your stories, whether it be specific themes or tropes, character archetypes, allusions to other literary works, what have you! it really can be anything that you consistently include in your narratives for whatever reason. then invite others to share theirs by tagging them!
MAGIC. with magic i don’t nessecarily mean a full magic system, but i do like adding things like tarot, natural magic, aura readers, supernatural things etc. its someting i grew up with and i have been discovering more and more about it so i love adding such things into my stories, especially cause it makes it feel more homey?? yeah.
MENTAL HEALTH. look i gotta do something with these undiagnosed mental ilnesses ok you i have to self insert somehow... yeah... anyways yeah i find the mind very interesting and i always want to try and put it in my stories, especially because its so important to your identity. for example in btitm i explore depersonalisation and derealisation, depression, dissociating, psychosis etc. I think i write about it to understand myself a little better too but we’re just gonna ignore that haha. ha. haha....
WORLDBUILDING. worldbuilding!!!! guys this is my favourite thing apart from characters... i think worldbuilding is one of the best and most important ways to create a solid story, its a great way to tell a story without needing a narrator. on top of that its just incredibly fun. Btitm for example is located in a lakehouse and a town called concrete, far up in the mountains. Working on the world was probably the most fun of the whole process.
SYMBOLISM. i try to add a lot of symbolism in my stories, especially in btitm. i try to put a little hidden meaning in everything, from names to objects to the things people say... even in the teaser there were a few ! its gotten to a point tho that i forget about them myself haha
LOVE. okay, i’ll admit this is a bit of a cliché but love is so important in life thats its nearly impossible to not write about it. However, it’s not just romantic love ! i love writing about familial, platonic, doomed love, even the love/hate relationships. I especially love writing about complicated relationships, its just incredibly interesting to develop!
