As a whole, the teaching profession seems to be grossly underappreciated. I think (and hope) we all have had at least that one teacher who has changed us for the better, opened our eyes and minds to the wide world of possibilities and to our potential. Prepared us to think outside the proverbial box, stretching our imaginations. Someone tough enough to push us beyond our comfort zone so we could grow, yet not strictly restrictive; walking the tricky middle ground between ruling with an iron fist and being a mealy-mouthed pushover. Fortunately, I have had several teachers who managed this awe-inspiring feat. They made a lasting impression on me and at one point I considered following in their footsteps. The best teachers never forget their learning days, striving to become the kind of teacher they themselves most needed.
