Edmonton blog roundup: Yeggies edition
So I've been so busy this week teaching a course about social media and blogging that I haven't had time to read all of the Edmonton blogs I usually read. Sad irony. However, this gives me an excuse to shine a light on the terrific work nominated for the Edmonton New Media Awards, aka the Yeggies.
A scene from the 2013 Yeggies, taken by Mack Male on May 9, 2014. (Used under Creative Commons licence.)
The nominees for the 2014 Yeggies were chosen from among 300 submissions. I'm pleased the list includes many of the blogs that I have rounded up in this space since last May. I'm just as pleased to discover new destinations for my new-media-loving eyes.
This year's ceremony takes place May 9 at La Cité francophone (8627 rue Marie-Anne Gaboury). Tickets go on sale in April.
I made a Flipboard magazine of the nominees, so you can study up before the event.
I'm hoping to return to my regularly scheduled curation of the ShareEdmonton blogs feed next week.
Yeggies 2014
We have been nominated for The Yeggies (Best In Music)! Thank you whoever nominated us, we will win this thing for you!
Below are the other nominees:
Brother Octopus - Very fun! These guys are all about entertainment and will sing about sea creatures, zombies, pogs, really anything. Check them out live if you haven't before!
I Am Machi - Edmonton's favorite duo. This husband/wife duo know how to rock! The tunes are dark and well put together, but they are so much fun onstage! One of our favorites!
The Unfortunates - Our band brothers from different mothers. We have played many a show with these fellows and they always dial up the energy to 11. If you want to jump around and get all sweaty make your way to The Unfortunates upcoming show at The Pawnshop.
Tracey Sawatzky (I'm With The Band) - There is nobody more passionate about what she does. She is an amazing photographer and a great story teller. Read her blog, you won't be disappointed.
Marshall Lawrence (Why I Love The Blues) - I unfortunately am not familiar with his work, but a quick browse of his website shows he is a very decorated musician and a lover of the blues! Hopefully DBR has a chance against him!

Remember nominations for this award are out so if you enjoy my videos (Ryan Byrne and his Productions, The People That Touch Your Food) or the things I say on twitter go ahead and nominate me. As I don't make much money from this, tiny accolades are all I have to hope for.
Oh and the love and respect of my friends and family. But who needs that when there are medals to be hoped for? (and ultimately lost, because let's face it I'm not that talented).
