ahh I had just queued that madam lan post but your reblog tags have me screaming my God. Idc if it's controversial but I have so many feelings about madam lan. ik she loved her children dearly how could she not but also the bit about resentment God..getting to explore this bit about her, even if its not completely canon. Cause like do we even know that she loved her husband? Did she even want children with that man? Was it a way for QJ to trap her further? so many thoughts and not enough time 😫

I have so many complicated feelings about mama lan!! Like ... on the one hand I want to know more about her (all those questions you asked up there!!!) and on the other hand the very fact we don't know more and that what we know is second hand information from two very unobjective sources is (imo) very much by design! Bc the whole point of her story is to show that wwx and lwj deviate from the patterns of their parents. So where we get the side of wwx as the former villain we never get madam lans. We only get silence and grief, just as her sons 😭 and I could write a mf THESIS on why the fact that she's a woman probably isn't incidental either. Bc NO woman in this story gets to tell her own story, not wen qing, not jiang yanli, not meng shi and certainly not mama lan (who doesn't even have a name), mor does the only known queer person in the story who isn't a protagonist. The only one who breaks the pattern is wei wuxian and it breaks my fucking heart how he does it too (bc it's not through some great reckoning with the powers that be. It's a mixture of luck and the wit of nhs)

But still I'm so CURIOUS i wanna KNOW! where did she come from? What did she want from her life? How much agency did she have? What did her kids mean to her???

Btw my personal hc there is that she did love her children and that's why she also resented them.

I honestly think a lot of interpretations about her and qhj's relationships are valid. In the novel especially, i feel like the parallels (and subsequent divergences) with wangxian support a reading of that relationship that is at least ... dubiously consensual or non-consensual. But honestly, a tragically doomed romance is just as possible. Either way my heart aches 🥺

I gotta say aamna I think you're really the perfect audience for the madam lan lives au I'm still working on 😅💙 it's got all of these questions in it and more. My biggest problem there is that I have so many thoughts on her and some are precisely that the ambiguity is the entire point of her story. And I still have to decide ... 🥲

Wei Wuxian, Grooming [27] Ah, what can I say? Lan Zhan is a great guy, he’s proven that time and time again through the entire week. I cut his hair today and I think I saw some unshed tears shining in his eyes when I showed him his ponytail, my heart really hurt then. But it’s a fresh start, a new Lan Zhan, a Lan Zhan that is more social outside of work too. I really hope he’s going to be able to explore who he is more, and that he knows that the rules his uncle forced upon him are ridiculous. [Laughs] I think the person that’s going to end up with Lan Zhan will be the luckiest person alive, I really wish him all the best.

“Come over for dinner later, yeah?” Wei Wuxian asks, from where he’s draped on the sofa in the dorm’s second-floor lounge, his knees dangling off the back of the couch and his head hanging upside-down off of the seat. “We do family dinners on Wednesdays, you know, and last week I realized that you’ve never been to one… I’ll admit I was a bit put-off and then Jiang Cheng asked if I’d ever actually invited you, and I realized that it’s all my fault to begin with. Ha.”

He grins, and even upside-down, the familiar smile makes Lan Wangji’s heart flip when he glances over at his friend. He’s sitting at a nearby table, textbooks stacked neatly in the center next to his open notebook full of neat, even print. He’s got midterms this week-- they all do-- and two of his exams are tomorrow, but he doesn’t mind the company. In fact, over the past few years, it’s become next to impossible to study without the incessant background chattering of Wei Ying’s voice. It’s funny that what used to bother him when they were freshmen now seems vital to his very continued existence.

“I’d love to,” he answers simply.

gosh it is SO CUTE. i have only seen through episode 4 bc im waiting on subs but i adore all the characters and i have loved watching shinwoo and taegyeong (is that how his name is spelled? the subs say テギョン (tegyon) which is not helpful for spelling his name in english XD) warm up to each other! the scene with the bandaid and the student council president at the end of ep 4 made me so sad 😭😭😭😭😭 poor shinwoo wanted to do a nice thing but got beaten to it 😭😭😭😭😭

i cant wait to watch more episodes!! ep 5 is 21% jpn subbed on viki so i will probably have to wait until the weekend for the subs to be done but im very excited!!! what is your favorite thing about the show so far?
