Thinking once again of how the only things lan xichen can say about his mother is that she was extremely gentle and never complained about being imprisoned and how what teeny tiny secondhand scraps we get of who she was before paint the picture of someone who is headstrong, freespirited, and has a clear capacity for violence and there is straight up nothing left of that woman in her children's view of her. What lxc describes is like. sidebraid anime mom levels of sandpapered no-personality-except-kind depersonalization. Neither of the twin jades knew their mom, not just because they only got to see her once a month but because even during those rare meetings they didn't get to know her even a little bit. And how the fuck could they? Being honest about your emotional state in that situation to your fucking six and nine year old children is fundamentally kind of unethical and if she'd done it the lan would almost certainly have banned her from seeing them at all so she was never anything but "generic nice mom" to them. There was literally no room for actual honest bonding and connection. It's like they never met their mom at all.

maybe a violent take of mine but regardless of whatever opinions one has about the new mdzs revisions, i hope you (@ the fandom) do realize that even if there was love between them, it doesn't mean that lan xichen and lan wangji were not born of violence. they were. it doesn't matter that they were in love or whatever (and i hate this. but unimportant to the point) she was locked up in the fucking gentian house and kept in there her entire life until she died and we don't even know what her personality was like for someone who killed qingheng-jun's teacher. like you do understand that this is a forced captivity situation anyway right. why are people calling this sweet and reassuring that "the jades were not born of violence" YES THEY WERE. who the fuck cares about whether they were in love or not

I like to imagine that because of Wen Yuan being raised in the burial mounds for a short bit, and also wei wuxian casting protection spells on him, He becomes VERYY sensitive to ghosts and other paranormal creatures.

Unfortunately this only applies to him when he was young, because after awhile all the protection stuff just wore off and Wei Wuxian wasn't there to renew it. And as he cultivated he was also cleansed of any remaining dark energies that might've stuck onto him during toddlerhood.

But for a short time, when he would go to the Jingshi, he'd see Madam Lan. Or when he visited Wei Wuxiand grave, he'd see his ghost.
