I read somewhere once that as teachers, we should really appreciate the things in our personal practice that we struggle with the most, because those are the things we’ll be better at teaching. Makes sense, right? The things that come naturally in life, it’s difficult for us to explain to someone else because we never really had to work through it. But those breakthroughs, that’s where it’s really at man. Examining the detail, putting in the time and sweat, rearranging the gears in yourself until it clicks. Those are the moments to savor, treasure, and pass on. It’s the struggle that gives us a purpose, a reason...something valuable to give back to the world. Patience and persistent practise is not what our modern culture wants to do anymore....especially when it comes to their bodies. Quick fixes and instant results are what are wanted and expected. What they fail to realise, is that even though our bodies and minds have evolutionized over time, they are still organic natural organisms that work within a system that requires consistent patient practise in order to achieve something great and worth while. This "instant messaging" mindset has made us lazy and unambitious. I don't know how many times I have been asked "How long did it take for you to get there?" and when I answer them in years or even months their reply is: "oh No, I don't have the patience for that" "Oh No, I don't have the will power for that" "Oh No, I don't have the time for that" Or my favourite......"how come it took you so long?" Hmmmmmmm I don't see you at any level close to this, so I think I am doing pretty damn good, what you say? 😏 If you want to achieve anything worthwhile, it is a process of persistent patient daily action AND it is a lifelong journey! Anything else that promises instant results is a short lived pleasure with no lasting results or value.
