@yurvis
Feet shuffle gently towards the door, the only sound in the apartment is her yawn as she unlocks the door and turns on a nearby light, eyes squinting from the brightness. Every time she hears the doorbell late at night Hyera’s heart drops & this time was no different. She stares at the mess of a girl in front of her, sighs and lets Yuri in, walking towards the cupboards and removing the first aid kit from the shelf. ‘So...what happened?’
Yuri x Mavis
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Auspicious Day
Bit of Yurvis for @yurisakura, who was hinting to me all afternoon that it was her birthday but me being the dense lump that I am didn’t realize it until after she told me what date her birthday was... AFTER I - THE DENSEST MORON IN THE WORLD - FRIGGING ASKED. AFTER SHE’D HINTED ALL AFTERNOON.
Anyway, happy birthday my friend. Have some fluff. Ish. Ness. Kinda sorta angsty. A bit. In places. I TRIED, OKAY.
It was thanks to an offhanded comment by Precht (of all people) that led Yuriy to realize that he was a horrible, horrible best friend.
“Aaah,” bemoaned the one-eyed man. “I woke up and everything cracked, Warrod. Everything! I’m getting too old for this...”
Warrod had simply laughed at Precht, but the comment stuck in Yuriy’s mind.
Getting older. That was something he’d deprived Mavis of. It was all his fault, his shame. She never would have cast that spell if not for him. She would never age, no matter how many birthdays passed...
Wait.
When was Mavis’s birthday?
Yuriy wracked his brain for an answer, but it just wouldn’t rattle out.
He called her his friend, but he didn’t even know this much? He could hardly claim that title, had barely any right to it. After all, what sort of best friend didn’t even know their best friend’s birthday?!
When was Mavis’s birthday?!
Yuriy had no frigging clue. And there was no one to ask about it either! (He’d already tried - Warrod and Precht were just as mystified as Yuriy. Not that he had let them catch on to his shortcoming as a best friend. Oh no. They’d never let him forget it. So he’d been subtle. Very, very subtle.)
All that was left was to ask the source. As covertly as possible.
Mavis was eating under a rainbow sakura sapling that they’d all planted together, to commemorate the founding of the guild. The guild’s birthday tree, of sorts.
Guilt punched him in the stomach, leaving him short of breath.
Just then, Mavis glanced up from her book. Spotting him, she grinned happily. “Yuriy!” she called out, lifting her arm to wave at him enthusiastically.
Yuriy returned her smile, and then sat down beside her. “Hey, Mavis. What’s that you’re reading?”
“Fairy Tales!” she declared. Mavis kicked her bare feet, as she often did when she was excited. At some point, they would need to invest in some actual footwear for her. Although there was a high chance she wouldn’t wear it even if they did.
Maybe that could be a birthday present? Wait... he was getting ahead of himself. Had to figure out when it was first.
What was the most subtle way to ask this? So that he wouldn’t admit to being such a horrible friend? Subtle... subtle...
“So... Mavis. When’s your birthday?”
Nailed it.
“Don’t have one!”
It took Yuriy a moment to process her cheerful announcement. “...What?”
“I don’t have a birthday.” Mavis shrugged. “I was orphaned pretty young. So I don’t remember when it is. Wouldn’t have mattered either way - I never really had anyone to share it with except Zera. And now... it doesn’t matter either.”
Right. Because she wouldn’t get any older.
Yuriy felt like a moron.
The tiny teenager tilted her head in confusion at him. “Why did you want to know all of a sudden?”
He sighed, and hung his head. “I just... I feel like a horrible friend for not knowing when your birthday is. I mean... it’s because of me that you aren’t able to age anymore anyway, and I still don’t...”
Yuriy felt a light touch on his arm. Looking up, he saw Mavis’s delicate hand there. “Don’t feel down, Yuriy!” she consoled him. “You never knew because I never said anything!” Then she huffed. “And you’re still blaming yourself for that? I used magic I wasn’t ready for because I wanted to. Because losing you would have been worse than losing my life. You’re more important to me than my time.”
A smile threatened to break out on his face. He still felt unworthy, but who was he to argue when she smiled at him like that? “Alright,” Yuriy acquiesced. “I’ll let it go.”
“You better!”
They shared a laugh.
“We should pick a date,” Yuriy suggested, in a burst of inspiration. “That way, we can all celebrate it together. You, me, Warrod, and Precht.”
Mavis nodded. “Sure! I’d love that!” Then she placed a fingertip on her lips in thought. “What date should I pick, though?”
“I don’t know. A day of importance, maybe?”
She grinned mischievously. “Your birthday, then?”
Yuriy choked. “What?! Why mine?!”
“Well, you’re important to me. So the day you were born is also important to me!”
He let out a cough. “But then there would be one less opportunity for cake,” he reasoned.
Mavis gasped. “You’re right!”
Oh thank goodness she bought that. Truthfully, he wouldn’t have minded sharing his birthday with her. Precht and Warrod would have teased them mercilessly though.
After a couple of minutes, Mavis brightened. “I know the perfect day!”
“Well then tell me, so I can start planning the party!”
She shifted so that she was completely facing him, and suddenly... the mood didn’t feel playful anymore. Her viridian eyes were serious, full of her resolute spirit.
“The day we met.”
Yuriy was a little taken aback. “The anniversary of when I tried to trick you?” he questioned. “Kind of an... unpleasant thing to remember.”
Mavis shook her head vehemently. “You’re wrong. It was the most auspicious day of all. It’s when I met my best friend. We had a rough start, but we’ve both grown so much from that time. Together, we’ve managed to come so far. It’s the best day of all. The start of my current life - the birth of who I am today. So... It shall be my birthday as well.”
And Yuriy couldn’t help but smile and laugh - truly touched. “That’ll be your birthday then!”
She grinned. “Yup! It’s decided!”
In which Mavis lives after Rita's death. Yuri x Mavis
twice
summary: Mavisvisits his grave. Yurvis.notes: Dear anon, I’m terribly sorry for not getting back to you about thisearlier. You’ve probably forgotten that you asked for this at all. Anyway, hereit is (finally)! But yeah, so… I’m cheating by knocking two birds with onestone—writing this request in context of the FT Angst Week prompt: family. But like I swear, I was goingto write this one like this anyway!more: Honestly this barely fits dear anon’s request and is a stretch for the Angst Week prompt. Lol, I hope you all enjoy anyway?also for: @yurisakura, who shares my lovefor Yurvis.
Mavis visits Rita’s grave, too.
It’s safe for her to do. After all, she can’t kill Rita asecond time.
And death is as far as she’ll let herself come to eitherYuri or his child. Death was also the last time she ever stood so close to him—andlook at what she did.
They were never meant to be in the first place. TenrouIsland was full of kisses that they weren’t sure they should be having and fullof promises that they very well knew they were going to break anyway. Forbiddenwasn’t not part of their vocabulary, and their naivety showed.
Mavis is still convinced that the only reason why Yuri forcedhimself to fall in love with Rita was because he could not admit to himselfthat he actually fell in love with someone seven years younger, someone that hecould have considered his younger sister, someone that he could have taken advantageof and had taken advantage of.
It’s one year after Yuri first met Mavis when he first meetsRiza, but it only takes Riza one day to stand where Mavis stood—a reflection atthe center of his admiring eyes.
She wasn’t angry at him with he went for Riza—not at all.She was sure that at some point, eventually, she would grow taller and becomean age that he was comfortable settling with. Having Riza was how he wouldspend his time waiting until she was ripe and he was ready.
But she didn’t grow taller. She didn’t grow a second older.
And while she begins to try to make up the time for that shelacks, she begins to realize what a curse she has. It’s one of wanting butnever having, of being close yet so far, of hoping for so long but fallingshort.
She waits—and immortal, she can wait forever.
I'm being greedy but no. 9 for Yurvis? (I'M CRAVING THEM I'M SORRY)
notes: Of course! Yurvis is my guilty pleasure. Actually, what the hell, I’m not even that guilty about it, lol. This drabble shall showcase one of their more childish and teen-aged moments.
9 | “Don’t ever do that again!”
“Don’t ever do that again!”
“Do what?” she asked, batting her big blue eyes.
“That!” he sputtered, pointing at her face again.
Her face retracted from his finger and she blinked several times, still confused.
He gave her a long exasperated groan. “I swear to god, stop it!”
“What am I doing that’s so wrong?” she demanded crossly, folding her arms over her chest.
He rose his hands up in the air, completely helpless in his situation. “Just stop…you know, making that face.”
“What face?” she insisted.
“That face!”
“Yuri,” she reminded him. “I can’t look at myself, you know. I don’t–”
“Just stop pouting!” he finally admitted, and then he curled himself into a ball, hugging his legs and tucking his chin between his knees.
Mavis was still dumbfounded. Her eyebrows narrowed. “Why?”
He looked off to the side, a blush creeping from the very tops of his cheeks downwards. He pushed his face further into his knees to hide the color.
“Why?” she repeated again, more intently this time.
He pressed his lips tightly together and squeezed his eyes shut, but finally decided to just fuck it all and say it.
“…because when you make that face…it makes me do things…” he trailed off, feeling his heart slowing to a stop. His voice turned dry in his throat. “…and think things that I shouldn’t…” He muffled the rest of his words. “…and I really can’t be in love with you.”
She showed him no pity. “So?” she interrupted, not hearing the end of his sentence. “If it makes you do things then it gets me what I want, and right now, I want the apple in your hand.”
“Merciless,” he remarked.
She stuck her tongue out at him.
He looked at her again, and then submits the red fruit in his hand to her.
He watched her eyes gleam before she quipped a quick thank you to him. Then she took a bite and hummed a tune as sweet as the apple in her small hands.
Well, she could have the apple. It wasn’t like he was ever going to have a taste of the forbidden fruit anyway.
Send me a prompt from this list (actually here’s a fresh new list) and a ship, and I’ll write you a drabble!
Yuri x Mavis for the ship thing?
YAYYY YURVIS <33
when or if I started shipping it:
Thanks to the glorious FT Zero manga I read when it was around 3-4 chapters, I thought Yuri and Mavis’s interactions were super cute when they first met. I broshipped them at that time though.
When Zeref showed up in FT Zero I sort of shipped Zervis, but then Mavis saved Yuri, and then Yuri just HAD to say “My dream is to protect you.” and mAVIS WAS BLUSHING FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THE FEELS HIT ME SO HARD OKAY?
They were best friends, and nothing could ever come between them... right? - Yurvis
Wow. This was terribly fun to write. Thank you so much for this prompt. Tagging @yurisakura since she just wants the Yurvis.
listen, next time
They were best friends, and nothing could come between them.
Except for this one book.
“Give it to me! Let me see!” she complains, jumping up anddown on her bare feet, her arms swiping back and forth, reaching upwards for arather discrete and pocket-sized book.
Mavis has been intrigued by the mysteries that enshroudedits contexts since the moment she saw Yuri reading—andthe older teenager never read for thelife of him—a book that had no words onits hard leather cover.
And of course shenoticed. What did Yuri think she was? A child. She noticed that he has beensticking his nose in those pages since the very. first. day.
And the blonde girl is much too in love with knowing to not know what her nakama is reading.
“Stop!” he snaps at her. “Quit it, will you?”
He stretches his right arm upwards, making sure that thebook is far far out of her short reach. He almost feels bad about her heightand the fact that he’s keeping anything away from her curious hands, but therewere just some things that Mavisreally really shouldn’t know.
“What is it? Your super secret diary? Your super secretplans?”
He wrinkles his nose—briefly remembering that last week shebroke his personal code that heencrypted his private thoughts in.
“No,”he replies to her, frankly.
“Then why can’t I read it?”
And she pouts, and it’s cute, and if it were anything else, he would have just toldher already but this book is very much something that she shouldn’t have hereyes on.
Also it’s hard for him to tell her no, but this is just oneof those things that he must must deny her.
“You just can’t,” he answers.
