YuuMii WorkShop : Lesson 6 

Cartooning, Proportions and Story

Characters are wild, unpredictable and unrealistic.  We can spot a character that reminds us of ourselves, how we wanted to be or how we are now, and fall in love with it.

Creating a good character is all about the personality that you empower your character with, and that unique personality can derive from the way it looks, talks, walks, thinks, etc. Character design creates loveable or memorable characters, whether they are good or bad, cute or weird, happy or sad.

Today is the Queen’s Birthday, we still had our class, because WE LOVE TO DRAW!!! Nothing can stop us. We even sat in the sun! It was warm....

We focused on Proportions again today, however BODY proportion and how you can really change the a characters personality with proportion, lines of action and pose. 

We explored our favourite drawings. Made them more detailed. Talked about story and what our characters might do in our comic next week.

Fantastic morning! Can’t wait to get them into the comic panels!

YuuMii WorkShop : Lesson 4, The Young Archibald Prize

We have been spending this term on Portraits, and I can really see that the children now fully understand proportions, and manipulating them. This will come in handy for the second half of the term, as we begin Cartooning, and comic strip making!

Creating a portrait of a family member.

These works will be fine tuned during the week on their own time, and submitted to the NSW Art Gallery (if they wish). We had the children spend some time talking with the person they would like to do a portrait of, have them discuss what they want to portray about themselves through the artwork. Then,  we had children take photos of the family member, in the pose they would like to draw.

Through this they will make choices about their pose, expression, clothing, environment and whether to include any other objects, as well as the style of the work and the medium.

YuuMii has aligned with Nurture Learning to create a integrated Program! MOST of which, we will do outdoors, weather permitting.  We cover the syllabus and MORE!

Holiday Festivities BEGIN NOW!

Well, if you have not yet decorated the tree, or hung up the stockings with care… You would be like me for the last 25 years. Now, however, I am a NEW WOMAN. Embracing the Holiday spirit!! 

Actually, I am liking it. 

So I will give you a minute to recognise that if these minor elements have not been covered, that you are OK. It will happen. In the meantime, I suggest distracting the children with some easy crafts….

YuuMii WorkShop: Lesson 3 St1&2 both worked with clay. Flowers and leaves, and then trying to sculpt a favourite toy. Incredible work!! We will paint it all up next week!
