Goldbrand war kein Produkt eines einzelnen Unternehmens, sondern eine Gattungsbezeichnung, unter der mehrere Brennereien ihre Produkte vertrieben. Außer dem Namen waren auch der Alkoholgehalt von 32 Vol.-% und der EVP von 14,50 Mark der DDR für die 0,7-l-Flasche überall in der DDR gleich. . VEB Likörfabrik Zahna . In der DDR gehörte die Likörfabrik Zahna mit Nordhausen und Wilthen zu den drei Großen im Land. 1878 war sie als Fabrik für Fruchtsäfte und Sauerkraut gegründet worden. Der Obst- und Gemüseanbau der Region machte einen solchen Betrieb sinnvoll. Die gute Verkehrslage an der damals gerade entstandenen Eisenbahnlinie von Berlin über Wittenberg nach Dessau tat ihr Übriges. . Spirituosen kamen dann ab den 20er-Jahren aus Zahna. 1938 übernahm ein Prominenter die Firma: Carl Mampe stellt dort die Zutaten seines "Mampe halb und halb" her. 1952 wurde das Unternehmen Volkseigener Betrieb.
