Alex hates it, so much. She loves Zane so much, and it kills her that the man...er, nindroid...she loves keeps sacrificing himself/getting badly damaged.

She also has a personal vendetta against all the villains who CAUSED those deaths (yes, she would fight the fucking Overlord with her bare hands because of Zane's sacrifice), so there's that too lol

Blizzardshipping after the Never-Realm

CW: PTSD, panic attacks, Zangst

Just in the first week after rescuing Zane, it's abunantly clear that this man is a wreck.

First off: his ice. Zane becomes TERRIFIED of using his powers, even on the criminals the ninja are trying to catch.

He's so afraid of reverting back into the Ice Emperor, that he'll act like the monster Vex and the scroll turned him into.

Alex often has to take over for him when he has literal panic attacks when put in a situation where he is forced to defend himself with his powers which causes him to freeze people solid.

Zane can hear the scroll. Or rather, the second scroll that is still in one piece in the monastery. If it's within 50 feet of him, Zane hears it, calling to him, urging him to pick it up.

Once Alex and the other ninja learned of this, they destroyed it for Zane's own sanity. Since then, the noise has quietened down somewhat despite it still haunting Zane's dreams every so often.

Alex does everything humanly possible to care for her traumatized boyfriend during this difficult time, doing all the sweet things he would have done for her in such a situation: making him his favourite meals, doing her best to comfort him, coaxing him to get some sleep during late hours or simply just sitting with him.

Except, at first Zane was so ashamed of himself that he couldn't fathom Alex still loving him after what she had witnessed. After seeing the blood he has on his hands, the lives he's destroyed...after he hurt his friends, hurt her.

Regardless, Alex is steadfast. She knows it's not his fault, the scroll had such a vice-like grip on him that it had corrupted him while Vex was making it worse. Zane is the love of her life, and she won't leave him for something that he had literally no control over.

Oh, and speaking of Vex: Alex HATES his guts after what he put Zane through. When he is sentenced to life behind bars (cos I say so, he DOES NOT deserve to walk free after all that) Zane has to hold her back from lashing at him when the slimeball deliberately tries to provoke her.

He's not going to show him any empathy, though. Zane is thoroughly traumatized by Vex's actions and probably will be for the rest of his life...it's more than safe to say this man hates his ass.

On nights when Zane is too afraid to sleep (he's plagued by horrific nightmares of becoming the Ice Emperor again), he will wake Alex up after much hesitation asking for her company. He finds peace and solace in Alex's presence, just being with her as they sit together holding hands and a kiss or two on the cheek or forehead is given to each other.

Zane attempted to apologize to Akita and Kataru before he left with the other ninja, but the looks of resentment told the nindroid that they would always see him as the man who caused so much harm to their people.

Fast forward to Dragons Rising and the second Zane lays eyes on the finders, he is instantly uncomfortable at the sight of Fritz. A formling.

At this point, he's moved on from the pain he went through but it still freaks Zane out.

Regardless, Zane acts like a caring uncle towards the finders. They love his cooking, which helps somewhat. Alex, of course, is his biggest supporter giving him a big hug afterwards.

zane both loving and hating the sound of a human heartbeat

after a particularly hard mission its the best sound he could hear, the steady thrum as his friends slowly slip into sleep whilst he lays awake
