Everything about the film is flawless - the music, the acting, the story, the directing, the dialogue, the grit, the spaghetti western references, the violence, the humor - what ISN’T there to love?!
Tarantino has a lot of truly remarkable films, but this is my favorite of his. It just AMAZES me how much he did when he had so little to work with. Since he was new to Hollywood, the budget was incredibly low, and he didn’t have many resources available. So the fact that he could pull off THIS masterpiece is a testament to his creativity and skills as a director 🤯
I’d also consider Reservoir Dogs to be either 2 or 3 on my fave film ever list. The first spot is reserved for The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. The other two spots are a toss up between Reservoir Dogs and For a Few Dollars More!

Also, I saw your tags on my reblog! As I said, it IS a gay tragedy, and nobody can tell me otherwise. There is a lot of evidence to make this argument btw — Mr. Orange allows Mr. White to murder cops right in front of him without any hesitation, yet moments later Orange kills a woman in a split second? Then, White literally defends Orange to the point of death, even though that involves betraying a man he’s been close with for many years??? And Orange confesses the truth about his identity to White, despite literally just having to wait one minute longer to be saved by the police?? Ummmm????
That’s not even mentioning how PHYSICAL everything is between them!! The caressing, face holding, hugging… uffda. In some foreign language versions of the film, White even offers Orange either a hand job or a BJ to help him feel better, for crying out loud! 🤦♀️
Tarantino himself said, “Gay subtext always makes every movie better,” and Harvey Keitel and Tim Roth have made references to something *more* going on between their characters. So, I think even they all ship it... and let's me real - it’s just so much more FUN to interpret it that way 😏

I have 3 written in my journal that I really like. However, I’ll choose one of them with something special attached. 4) Favorite Dutch camp interaction?
Oh, this is so difficult. Gahhhh!! There are so many I could choose for this?? I think I’m gonna go with the “good people do bad things” interaction with Hosea in Chapter 3. It’s heartfelt and thought-provoking. (Not to mention, a little part of me dies every time I get to hear Dutch say “daddy”)

Although, I also really love the “GODDAMN SNAKES” interaction in Chapter 6 because it’s absolutely hilarious. It’s terrible, but I can’t deny that it cracks me the hell up.

Riders on the Beach by Toast_Senpai -- I have a hard time writing lighthearted VDM fics, so I really appreciate it when others do it well!! This is a very fine example!
Opportunities by @lukasvdm -- Mmm I absolutely LOVE the dynamics of this fic!!! Super brilliant and unusual in the absolute best way possible. Delicious.
Affection by @woman-with-no-name -- I've only recently started getting into reader stuff, and this fic is phenomenal. It captures my feelings towards Dutch so perfectly, and it fully deserves all the love I can give it!! Stunning!

Literally ALL of them - good and bad, I don't care. I just love seeing the feller! But if I was forced to choose JUST ONE, I think I’d have to go with his speech on the cliff during “Favored Sons.” I was totally unprepared the first time I played that mission, and my mouth was hanging open by the end. It was such a contrast to when he (SPOILERS) says it in RDR1. It’s so much more lively and hopeful… oh, my heart.
Plus, it just says SOOOO much about his character, and I thoroughly enjoy exploring the ideas he presents when writing for him!!

I do have a “Western” playlist, but it’s not specifically for Dutch. However, I can share a few songs on it that particularly remind me of him!!! Lots of angst and darkness mmmm 😈
“That’s the Way It Is (Low Honor)” by Daniel Lanois. Basic, I know. But this song is literally about the relationship between Dutch and Arthur. Nobody can tell me otherwise. Besides, RDR2 is just as much Dutch’s story as it is Arthur’s.
“In My Darkest Hour” by Megadeth. Very dark song. I named my RDR1 fic after it because I think it captures Dutch’s mental state from that time so perfectly. However, I see it more as a song to himself… he tries to pin the blame on others for his own faults, but deep down, he knows he is just trying to run from his true feelings and problems. (Although, I suppose you could also interpret it as being from Arthur's POV... which is extra harsh)
“Holy Wars… The Punishment Due” by Megadeth. There are a LOT of Megadeth songs that give me Dutch vibes. But this one stands out because it has an excellent anti-authority message, and I think he would really appreciate those vibes in contemporary times.
“The Outlaw Torn (Live with the SFSO)” by Metallica. Great for feeling VDM angst. Such a sad song of longing and regret.
“Appalachian Falls” by Federale. Ughhhhh the angst!!! Throughout the story of RDR, we are basically forced watch as Dutch destroys himself, and there isn't a damn thing anybody can do to stop him. It hurts...
