Holding Hands and Healing Hugs
JJK ONESHOT/DRABBLE
"You're so..strange, aren't you?"
Jeongguk mumbled under his breath, amused at the girl he has come to love.
Y/n didn't even turn her head to look back at him.
The amount of disrespect.
That's okay
They do it all the time, in a way that doesn't cost their relationship
In a way that only adds up to their love.
"What's so strange? Is that I'm wearing my dad's T-shirt now?"
She replied, eyes glued to her laptop screen while she typed some notes that she was still learning.
He laughed, a sound that slowly filled her empty spaces, darkened voids, overlooked abyss.
Oh that wasn't just any other sound
It's a mellifluous one.
"Well..that's endearing, not strange."
He said, watching her exhale with a tiny smile.
"I meant the way you act, sweetheart."
Jeongguk watched her face morph into a blend of embarrassment and exuberance
At the term of endearment he used.
"Yea, that exactly."
He pointed out with an accusing finger (he was only being childish again)
Y/n shook her head, shutting her laptop momentarily, finally gazing back at him. It wasn't always magical, it didn't make her giddy like the stereotypical stories would say.
She felt comfortable
She found a safe place in him and she stays
But it's not only 'cause of that
He found a kind of energy in her that both soothed and fascinated him.
Maybe it was the way she didn't outright let him in
She was genuine, moving in her own pace, in both professional and personal lives
She wasn't very confident like him
But she tried
And tried
And tried
And that was something that reminded jeongguk of himself.
He saw a piece of him in her
But of course, she's an array with her own colors blending without vividness
He believed that's the beauty of art, to let the details bleed into each other until they give a whole significant meaning for the big picture.
Jeongguk didn't think so much into the intricacies of art or poetry
But he has empathy
And he offered it without ever being overbearing.
Y/n on the other hand..believed love only in papers and poetries
She has this image of love that's so pure
Yet, she knows she's already tainted by the darkness of sins
She doesn't deny it
And that drew him in
Because Jeongguk believed that we all have one life to live
And he was always moved by the way she thought, not only in papers
But also in daily life.
He has seen how she really acts around people
She blends in seamlessly like the art he doesn't understand
But again, that doesn't frustrate him, that intrigued him
He has heard her loud laughters and confident ideas in seminars
He has also witnessed her being silent near a window while all other people were busy doing something else.
That was her, fitting in one moment, being in her own space the next.
And jeongguk..
Jeongguk is her anchor
Her stability
And Y/n is nothing but a warm hug and a home for him
While he's all about gestures and actions, she was mostly silent, only sound in papers. The love, the reverence, the longing, she expressed everything through her ink but not through her lips.
Her love is a phantom kind
It's there, strongly, but you can only feel it barely.
It's not that she doesn't want to,
It just takes time.
And he found it strange how a girl could lock out every bit of her emotions
Inside crinkled papers and fading fonts.
"—Exactly what?"
She questioned, propping her chin on her palm as she looked at him.
He thought for a moment.
Jeongguk wasn't very good with words either
He's a mischievous one, but a kind that loves deeply.
So he began, softly.
"You write about holding hands and healing hugs. But you never ask for them."
Y/n fell silent at the question, only chuckling.
She wasn't afraid to confront her emotions, no, just not all the time.
"To be honest..I don't know the reason."
She paused, thinking for the right words, eyes still locked with his.
"Maybe because I know people won't care enough to ask such questions like you did now."
Jeongguk raised his eyebrows slightly, a small smile curling on his lips.
"So if they did..you would do it?"
"Do what?"
"Holding hands and hugs and..kisses?"
Y/n laughed at the way he asked, his voice dipping into the quirky tone he often used to fluster her. She hummed in thought, failing to hide a smile as they grinned at each other like two soul mates in love, love and love.
"Hmm..maybe with certain people." She whispered, her free hand toying with the bracelet he wore on his hand.
Jeongguk tilted his head at her reply to look closer, noses slightly brushing as they remained in that fragile moment before he whispered softly, eyes shut, her reply in a mellow tone.
—"Like?" He questioned
—"You." She replied, soft.
