Zoo conversations Guest: "What's that other bird in with the parrots?" *pointing at tortoise. Zookeeper: *blank stare. "That's a tortoise."
Today I realized that I have more personal, hands-on experience with porcupines than I do with house cats. I... don’t know how this happened.
So today I was leaving the zoo after closing.. no guests in sight. Just walking down a hill when I heard the loUDEST tiger growl and then faint screams. I have never felt so caveman SpongeBob in my life. Frigging tigers. Lol
why am I having stress dreams about my zoo in zoo tycoon?
we're going under guys. I bit off more than I can chew. I should've gone for the medium sized zoo but larger zoo felt right. now my guests are starving and thirsty.
Working our Sky Ride (it's a ski lift with a bar)
Guest: Will we be able to see the Tigers? Me: (trying to make them laugh) Well if you saw any we'd have a huge problem. Guest: *stares blankly* Me: Because we're in Africa right now. Guest:.... Me: The tigers are in Indonesia. Guest:...... Me: OKAY go ahead and step in the yellow box please and sit down when I get to three!
All cats are not created equal
*when walking past the Lynx enclosure* Child: Look! Lions! Me: Ah how cute. He's just beginning to recognize different species but made an adorable mistake! Adult: Can that fence really hold a lion back? Me: No, no it can't. It can hold a lynx. Which is the small animal you see in there. Right by the sign that says LYNX.
Another story involving peacocks
I overhead a guest today point out a peahen as I was walking to lunch. She said "Look at that bald one it doesn't have any feathers! I bet they plucked it so they could make money. That's what they do" No ma'am. We do not in fact catch free roaming birds and rend their feathers from their skin. It's a female. And it very obviously HAS feathers. And they are brown. Compared to the males which are blue and green. Seriously sometimes I think people don't actually look at the animals. Like they just glance long enough to verify "THAT'S A BIRD! I AM A ZOOLOGICAL EXPERT!"
