Fukuzawa:
The soukoku generations
zskk seek self control
skk seek humanity
sskk seek validation
ok just. listen.
fukuzawa stepping away from the government work to keep himself in check. mori is all about control in general. they both keep their emotions to themselves, independent about it—self control.
chuuya doesn’t see himself as human, other people don’t see dazai as human—humanity.
akutagawa is constantly over himself seeking dazai’s approval, for him to say he did good. atsushi finds it hard to accept himself without other people accepting him first—validation.
they all define their own worth through the three things, like they’re not worthy (in being, in leading, in living) without it.
pov, the different generations of soukoku during that one like 20 minute period in dead apple:
zenku soukoku: stabbing ghost versions of themselves/abilities whilst arguing
soukoku: saying very gay things whilst doing gay activities
shin soukoku: being a peak trio alongside kyouka whilst fighting a unicorn
just your everyday events
rewatching beast hit me with the thought that two generations of soukoku are severed, fukuzawa and mori because of fukuzawa believing mori is deceased or in hiding who might never show his face again. then dazai and chuuya with dazai actually being dead and chuuya locked up after a rampage.
and then there's akutagawa and atsushi suddenly being given the dying wish to try work together against threats they don't even know exist yet and expected to take what dazai had said about the book and their world at face value and believe him
we go from fukuzawa, dazai, and atsushi in canon on one side and mori, chuuya, and akutagawa on the other to fukuzawa and akutagawa on one side, chuuya on the other, and atsushi alone trying to find his own path
the best part about the agency temporarily shutting down is that it potentially makes all those jokes about mori picking fukuzawa for the trade actually possible. also it could even make sense that he'd want his bodyguard back while the PM is going through shit of their own
please asagiri please it would be so funny. i might have to write a fic about this
It is funny how Ranpo managed to find himself a dude that could complete his soul without fumbling, when his father fumbled two dudes and one of those fumbles almost caused the end of the world
Aakhjdkayfkfvj I mean Poe did very much try to kill Ranpo. I see where you're coming from but that is very much something that happened. That said, Ranpo at least was able to keep his murderous boyfriend pfffftttt
Second time I've ever seen Akutagawa apologise was before he was supposed to "kill" Atsushi here.
I like how out of all the known generations of duos in BSD, SSKK/Shin Soukoku (I still don't like this name for them as a more yin-yang sounding one sounds more suitable.) they harbor the least amount of hatred toward each other at least after some time, or are just more likely to end up being the "successful" duo. Especially considering that one interaction in Beast... They could get along without even fighting.
With Fukuzawa and Mori its like they're on complete opposite ends, they in the past and now do not get along.
With SKK/Soukoku/ Dazai and Chuuya, they haven't gotten along but could work together when they had to. They still have an amount of hatred in their complexity, or just could never work as "friends" after everything that has happened or during all that has, despite the trust that has built upon years of working together.
Then there's Akutagawa and Atsushi... At first it was confusion, then hatred from Akutagawa, then Atsushi firmly not liking him, to Akutagawa understanding, to Atsushi still being confused but not completely firmly disliking/getting along with him through their team-ups and the fight with Ivan despite their verbal clashes during that time. To Akutagawa being there on that battle with Fukuchi when Atsushi was alone, to the trust that built for the battle as comrades for that one time in that second they needed to defeat Fukuchi.
I don't know what they are now, and I await the day they become friends even if it happens when one of them dies. But they definitely had more of a journey of understanding and not liking views, of jealousy, of defeat, of strength of self, of willpower, of survival, of trust, and of life and death.
Asagiri really makes some interesting and well-written character duos.
