What is Dating Firelord Zuko Like?

Everytime he makes a big decision (a good one), you better start getting the towels ready for wringing because Zuko probably caught a fever from doing the right thing...

AGAIN.

Oh yeah. He also gets panic attacks quite often from previous assassination attempts, and can only rest easy with you beside him.

Additionally, you’ve had to learn basic self-defense. Zuko is constantly worried about assassins targeting you to get to him.

Still incredibly awkward, just like back when you were teenagers.

Because of this, he tries to be formal in the public eye, but in private, always touchy and needs some kind of contact with you.

Since he isn't big on PDA, he’ll hold your hand under the meeting table where the ministers can't see lol

Hehehefjhefuguh okay I don't think he'd be insanely big on formalities when it's just you two but imagine him calling you "my Lady" hehehehe

I think he'd despise being overly traditional and is trying his hardest to separate himself from his father, but that particular title... ouuuu

He says it in a worshipping way far more than the conventional sense.

Best believe it's not just something he says publicly, but in the bedroom too

At the same time though, he secretly loves when you wear Fire Nation red (if you aren't from the Fire Nation to begin with). It is unfortunately, a guilty pleasure of his. So some traditions are nice, he supposes...

Oh, and his perfect hair??? He only manages it to look that way because YOU'RE an expert at doing it for him.

Plans romantic dinner dates for you both in the palace, but his favourite kind of dates are the ones that involve literally just parallel play (usually when he's working).

Or!!! Or!! Feeding turtle ducks in the garden together. It is a mandatory couple's activity.

Whenever you visit Ba Sing Se, Iroh always teaches you Zuko’s favorite tea blend (and probably shows you embarrassing baby photos).

Probably the nicest old-fashioned style gifts he'd give you tbh. Some of his teenage qualities still remained...

...Such as giving you nonsensical presents, that are actually genuinely sweet gestures.

Whenever he's working or sees something that reminds him of you (like a rock) he'll bring it back. His love language is basically being a crow LMAO

You do get spoiled in gorgeous gemstones and fabrics, but that's more so if you want it.

He’s still sensitive about his eye. The first time you kissed the scarred side of his face, he probably didn't speak for ten minutes because he was processing that someone could find that part of him worthy of affection.

Now it's become a regular part of your nightly routine before extinguishing the candles.

Zuko accidentally learns your tell (╥﹏╥)

The thing about you was that you were impossible to read. At least, that's what everyone said.

As a healer, you could calmly handle injuries that would send other people into a panic. As a diplomat, you could sit through endless council meetings without ever losing your composure. You smiled when you were annoyed. Laughed when you were angry. Somehow, nobody ever seemed to know what you were actually thinking.

Except Zuko.

You didn't realize he'd figured it out until it was far too late. It started during a council meeting. One of the ministers was droning on about reducing aid to an Earth Kingdom village that was still rebuilding after the war. The entire room looked bored. You looked polite.

But your nose scrunched. Just a little.

The minister kept talking. Your nose scrunched again. Across the table, Zuko's eyes narrowed slightly. You didn't notice.

Unfortunately, he did.

After that, it became impossible to stop seeing. Whenever a noble said something stupid? Your nose scrunched. Whenever a merchant tried explaining healing to you? Your nose scrunched. Whenever someone made a ridiculous comment about waterbending? Your nose scrunched. And because the universe hated him, Zuko eventually realized exactly what it meant.

Whenever you thought someone was being an idiot...

Your nose wrinkled. Like an annoyed rabbit. The discovery should have been insignificant. Instead, it became a problem. Because now he kept looking for it.

Council meetings. Banquets. Diplomatic events.

Every time someone started talking, Zuko would glance over just to see if you'd do it. Which was exactly how you caught him.

"Why do you keep staring at me?"

"I don't."

"You do."

"I don't."

"You absolutely do."

His immediate refusal only made you more suspicious. For the next week, you demanded answers. You cornered him after meetings. You cornered him after training. You cornered him in hallways. Every single time—

"Tell me."

"No."

"Tell me."

"No."

"Zuko."

"No." Eventually, you reached your limit. One afternoon, while walking through the palace gardens, you stepped directly into his path.

"Tell me."

"No."

"Tell me."

"No." You narrowed your eyes. Then deliberately scrunched your nose. Zuko froze. The silence that followed was immediate. And suspicious. Very suspicious.

"...You figured something out."

"I didn't."

"You did."

"No."

"Zuko." He groaned. Then, before he could stop himself—

"You look ridiculous." Your jaw dropped.

"You noticed." The look on his face told you everything.

"You noticed!"

"It's not a big deal."

"You noticed!"

"You literally just did it!" You covered your face with both hands. This was terrible. Absolutely terrible. You were never going to recover from this. Meanwhile, beside you, Zuko was suspiciously quiet. When you finally peeked through your fingers, you discovered why. He was smiling.

Actually smiling.

The traitor.

And somehow, that was even worse than the fact he'd learned your tell in the first place.

Continuing on the daddy!zuko train for a little bit, he totallllyyyyyyyy loves when little Izumi has her tantrums during the terrible 2s. He lives and breathes for her happiness, but her little pout and stomp around is so cute to him that he'll immediately fold.

When she comes with her wittle waddly run, crying and disrupting his meetings, and when he asks her what happened, she tells him mama said she can't have a cloud. He's immediately sending the fastest hawk in the fire nation to get Aang, not at all caring about his Avatar duties. If his baby wants a cloud, she's getting a damn cloud!

She'll ask for firecracker buns and mid bite of her 3rd piece she'll start screaming about how she hates firecracker buns and she instead wants cherries(which she declined 30 minutes ago because she explicitly said they were disgusting). You want to put your foot down and teach her to finish what she's eating, but zuko is already calling for the banishment of firecracker buns and demanding cherries to materialize within the next 2 minutes before the entire kitchen staff gets replaced.

She starts taking lessons to learn her numbers and letters, and she's running from her study room all the way to his office after every single completed task. What should have taken 10 minutes has now taken an hour (he's already having her study room be placed next door to his office). By the time her class is over, she's exhausted and sleeping faced down on the palace floor because she just couldn't make it the rest of the way. Parchment makes for a nice blanket! (This one isn't a tantrum, but I thought it was cute)

A/N: I wasn't sure if you wanted an x reader or headcanons so I decided to do headcanons. I hope that's okay with you.

Zuko Hugging Headcanons:

The first time you and Zuko hugged, it was very awkward.

It was right after a battle with fire nation guards or with Zuko's sister Azula.

Zuko didn't know what he was doing when you hugged him.

Which by the way, you had to hug him because it was getting very awkward, and neither of you knew what to say to each other after the fight.

He had his arms up while you were hugging him and your face was in his chest.

You were hugging him like you didn't want to let him go.

Slowly after a few seconds, Zuko wrapped his arms around you with a smile on his face.

'This is nice,' Zuko thought.

You were just smiling in happiness.

It took a while for Zuko to get used to your hugs.

It slowly over time became a daily occurrence for you two to hug at least once per day, even after The Hundred-year-war was over.

Your hugs for Zuko were like comfort for him.

Your hugs were like one of Zuko's safe places to go to when he needed comfort, especially when he had a bad day.

Zuko doesn't know why, but your hugs always just made him feel better.

Every time Zuko hugs you, you just felt happy.

I don't know why but I can imagine Zuko hugging you out of nowhere and it surprises you.

Like he sneaks up behind you and picks you up and hugs you right out of nowhere.

And you just squeak or scream in surprise.

(I don't know why but I think it's adorable, cute, and funny all at the same time imagining that.)

Overall, you and Zuko just hugging each other is just so cute and so adorable.

Fire Siblings headcanons

-Azula is trans lesbian & Zuko is trans bisexual

-Zuko, fighting back more, doesn’t care and is open about his bisexuality along with being transgender (even though he spent s1 chasing his dad’s approval, I still don’t see him hating himself for being who he is)

-Whereas, Azula tries to “make” herself straight because she wants to stay on her dad’s “good side” and “doesn’t want to lose his approval”

-When it comes to being trans, Azula genuinely believes that Ozai accepts her and believes that he’s just “joking” whenever he pokes fun about it.

-Zuko and Azula always spoil either other's nieces, which pisses the other off

-Azula always hogs the bathroom, driving Zuko insane
