DIY Creative | The Color Clock
What? An online clock that changes hue depending on the HEX code that the hour creates.
Why? An HEX code let’s you clearly define the exact hue you wish to create, It is the easiest way to communicate with designers regarding color. However, the concept of a HEX code is pretty vague for anyone who never had a chance to work with a design software. The Color Clock is a perfect example of how you easily explain a difficult term.

Brand Design That Inspires Us | Blue Ribbon 1844
What? Pabst Blue Ribbon Chinese luxury beer, which retails for $44.
Why? PBR, a cheep beer brand best known in the U.S for being the drink of choice among college students, decided to enter the Chinese market in 2009. Taking advantage of the new chinese craze for high-end alcoholic drinks, PBR decided to re-invent itself as Blue Ribbon 1844 (the year the Pabst Brewing Company was founded). The re-designed package and bottles, that were meant to project luxury now retail for a whooping $44, a case study that shows how far can good branding take you.

What? A wine brand design made by our Chief Designer, Tom Lahat.
Why? In order to teach, you must first do. At Tailor, we often encounter challenges in translating design into algorithms. We found that the best way to teach a computer how to design a wine brand is attempting to design one yourself. Mountain Wine was one of those attempts.

Why? There is a lot to learn looking at the ads marketers run during the holiday season. This year ads with strong storytelling, humor and philanthropy won over consumers, according to data from ad tracking firm Ace Metrix.

Brand Design That Inspires Us | Melbourne City
What? Melbourne is the second most populous city in Australia, and the capital of the state of Victoria.
Why? In 2009, the City of Melbourne launched a new corporate identity. Up until then Melbourne often seemed as Sydney's "un-cool" sister, and its logo well depicted that image. Melbourne decided that looking at other cities such as London or NYC, a strong brand is an important aspect in changing it. The result is what’s known as a dynamic brand, one that keeps certain key features that allow it to change colors (and sometime shap)e depending on the event. In case you were wondering, the rebranding costed Melbourne apx. $200,000.

DIY Creative | Nikon for the Instagram Generation
What? ‘I AM Generation Image‘ is Nikon’s integrated campaign, that decided to use the Instagram platform rather than to fight it by distributing Nikon cameras to leading Instagram users and documenting their use of it.
Why? It’s no secret that professional photography has taken a hit due to the rise of photo-sharing networks such as Instagram. Famous magazines have already set precedents by exhibiting front page pictures shot by smart-phones. Nikon’s response is near perfect - they know they can’t stop the revolution, so they show how their tool can be integrated in it.

Brand Design That Inspires Us | Sex, Drugs & Helvetica
What? Sex, Drugs & Helvetica is a blog and annual Melbourne and Brisbane conference for designers.
Why? There is no shortage in good design blogs and conferences, but branding one is not an easy task. Designing a brand for a design blog is harder than trying to sell ice to Eskimos. Sex, Drugs & Helvetica differentiated themselves by not trying to out-do others with a complex and elaborate design. Instead, they keep the design minimal, with a simple Helvetica typeface, which draws the focus to an unusual name. Why fight fire with fire when you can simply battle with a bucket of water?

DIY Creative | Beer that Maximizes Creativity
What? A 7.1% craft IPA crafted out of a collaboration between Advertising agency CP+B and Professor Jennifer Wiley of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Willey's research determined that the "creative peak" comes when the blood alcohol level reaches 0.075, lowering our ability to overthink a task. The "Problem Solver" is brewed to get an average-sized man to 0.075% in a serving.
Why? Despite the fact that the Problem Solver was not crafted as a commercial product it can teach us a valuable lesson about cognitive branding that can be applied on any product; by applying unusual value to your product you allow it to stand out from the rest of its brand-category.

Brand Design That Inspires Us | Hampton Creek - Just Mayo
What? Just Mayo is a vegan mayo brand by Hampton Creek.
Why? Distributing vegan food to the mass is a tough job. Just by defining your product as vegan you can deter many potential customers that might have enjoyed your product otherwise. In order to counter this effect, Hampton Creek designed a beautiful artisan-looking brand that doesn't clearly state its vegan, but rather lists its benefits of being healthier, better tasting and more sustainable for their planet. This brand did such a good job it made mayo giant Hellmann's use its parent company Unilever to file a law suit against Hampton Creek, on the basis that Just Mayo shouldn't use the word "mayo" if it has no eggs.
