wuauauau thank you so much!!! I appreciate your curiosity hehe I love answering questions related to my processes! I mainly use Toonsquid for my animations! (Will always be a toonsquid truther🙂↕️)
Hmm i’m not too sure on how to explain my process, but assuming you’ve seen that one unfinished braunsol meme~ I usually create a small animatic version before fully animating over it, like shown below!
Then when i’m done with that, i’ll use a vector brush to animate the lineart. Vector brushes are super cool because it can go outside the canvas, and before toonsquid added a liquify tool, i’d use the smudge tool as a substitute since vectors can’t really lose quality :3 Makes cleaning lineart easier
Ooh a really cool feature in toonsquid is the ability to put images outside the canvas too! I always put it imgs there for reference, its fun too look at as well xD
Before colouring lineart, I use a vector fill brush (basically like a lasso brush) to create mini figures outside the canvas to figure out the correct colours for them, including the shading! It’s pretty easy to get out of hand tho~ Erm… unfortunately most of the examples are hetalia. . we don’t talk about those dark times
Then when actually colouring, if the animated parts of a figure is seperated (like for Braun’s walking cycle, the torso, legs and head was animated in different animation layers), I’d duplicate each of it and then merge it all into one layer to make it easy to fill in~ then set it as a fill reference to use the fill tool on another layer
Now most of the time, my lineart is never clean~ But that’s when fill brushes become your best friend :3 If there’s a gap in the colouring you can colourpick and patch it up with a fill brush. Then for shading, you can also use a fill brush, colourpicking from the mini figure u made outside the canvas, and I just add shadows manually by focusing on one portion and going through frame by frame to add them, I do the same with any sub colours too! I don’t do it in an industry way on my casual animations cuz my process is way too messy lol
If it still feels flat, usually i’d create a new animation layer above the colouring layer then toggle mask (basically clipping mask) it to the colour layer! Then use an airbrush for the parts i wanna add more depth to, then voila~
You can also add additional shadows and make it specific to the moving framess, or you can keep it static and add looots of different blending modes and layers like what I did with KSE (got a bit out of hand lol)
And then you repeat the process for everything you’re animating :3 Hmm i’d definitely encourage using symbols too~ It’s like putting different layers into one group so your workspace doesn’t get too messy, or if you’re more familliar with an AE term, it’s like pre-composing layers together xd!! It’s also helpful when you wanna move something as a whole
For tweening!! hmm I seperate all the different parts i plan to animate into different drawing layers then use keyframes to make them move, i’m not the best at explaining it though but i’m sure any other tutorial would have a simillar process to mine :3
