dennis calls robby kitten and it makes him blush. when robby is upset dennis says "curl up kitten" and robby will put his head on dennis' shoulder and curl up on top of him. when robby starts getting agitated or aggressive dennis will pull him aside and pet his hair and ask "what's wrong kitten?" and robby will just go red in the face and melt onto Dennis' shoulder and nuzzle his neck. kitten was just being silly because he didn't get enough attention. he just needs some scratches behind the ears and he'll be all soft again.
michael robinavitch is actually just small. he's touch deprived and he would never admit it but cuddling and having someone pet his hair makes him feel soooo much better.
you know how they say that a part of you dies when you lose someone you love?

❤️ Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
The Reveal.
It happened on a Tuesday. At 9:30 PM. After an eighteen-hour shift, when everyone had gone home and only the night crew and the silence remained.
Robby sat in his office, staring at the monitor, not seeing a single number. Just sitting. Waiting.
Three weeks he'd been waiting for this moment. Collecting evidence. Checking. Analyzing. Telling himself he was wrong. And now the pieces had come together into a puzzle the size of his entire life.
***
It started two hours ago.
A critical patient. Multiple fractures from a fall. Robby worked without looking up, and Dennis - as always - handed him instruments. Perfect. Synchronized. Like they'd done this a thousand times before.
Robby reached for a clamp. Dennis already had it ready. Their fingers touched for a second. Robby felt the warmth of another person's skin, the dryness of his palm, the faintest tremor.
And then he saw it.
On Dennis's right arm, just above the wrist - a thin white line. A scar. Old, almost invisible, but Robby remembered it. He'd seen the exact same scar three days ago on Spider's arm, when he'd handed Robby a lighter.
Robby had thought: Coincidence.
Now he knew: no. Not a coincidence.
***
He finished the surgery, peeled off his gloves, and walked to his office. Closed the door. Sat down. Waited.
Half an hour later, someone knocked.
— Come in, - Robby said, not looking up.
Dennis walked in. Tired. Pale. Dark circles under his eyes. He looked like he hadn't slept in a week. Or like he knew exactly why he'd been called.
— You wanted to see me, Dr. Robby?
Robby looked up. Studied him. Long. Carefully. The way he looked at patients when he knew the diagnosis was terminal but still had to say it out loud.
— Sit down, - he said quietly. — Close the door.
Dennis closed the door. Sat on the edge of the chair, hands clasped on his knees. Fingers twitching slightly - that same tremor Robby had noted in his notebook as a "compulsive habit."
***
Robby stood up. Walked to the window. Turned his back to him.
He couldn't look at Dennis when he said this. Couldn't see his face.
— You have a scar on your arm, - he said. — Right wrist. Thin, white, about two centimeters. I saw it during surgery today.
Dennis said nothing. Robby could hear his breathing - fast, shallow.
— Three days ago, - Robby continued, — I saw the exact same scar on Spider-Man's arm. He handed me a lighter. I remembered it. Because I remember everything about you.
Silence. Just the ticking of the clock on the wall.
Robby slowly turned around. Looked at Dennis.
He was sitting perfectly still, staring at the floor. Face pale. Hands clenched so tight his knuckles were white.
— Dennis, - Robby's voice cracked for the first time in years. — Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me that scar is from childhood. Tell me you're not the one who sits on that roof every night. Tell me I'm a crazy old man seeing things that aren't there.
***
Dennis lifted his head. His eyes were glistening - not with tears, with fear. Real, primal fear. He opened his mouth to say something, but all that came out was a rasp.
— I... I... - he started, his voice breaking. — Dr. Robby, I don't... I don't understand what you're...
— Don't, - Robby cut him off. — Don't lie to me. I know your voice. I've heard it on that roof twenty times. I've heard you tremble when you say "I'm here." I know how you stand - weight on your right foot, hand ready, shoulders slightly raised. I know what your suit smells like - rubber, sweat, cheap detergent. I know you sleep on that couch in the residents' lounge because you're afraid to go home and leave the neighborhood unprotected.
He stepped closer. Stopped half a meter away.
Dennis sat frozen, pressed into the chair, but he didn't look away.
— I know you're the one who saved me. Three times. And I know you're the one I... - Robby stopped. His throat tightened. — The one I love.
***
The word hung in the air. Heavy as lead.
Dennis stared at him, eyes widening. Pupils dilating slightly - a shock response, surprise, the realization of something he'd never dared to imagine.
— You... - he whispered. — You love me?
— Idiot, - Robby breathed out. — I've been building a case file on you for three weeks. I memorized your scars, your cuts, your bruises. I couldn't sleep thinking about you. I wanted to fire you a hundred times just so I wouldn't have to see you every day. I stood on the edge of that roof, and the only thing that stopped me was the thought: What about him?
Robby fell silent. Stared at Dennis. At his hands, clenched into fists. At his neck, where a vein was pounding. At his eyes - grey, frightened, but no longer empty.
He took one last step. Now there was no more than fifteen centimeters between them.
Robby raised his hand, placed his palm on Dennis's cheek. The skin was hot, damp with sweat. Trembling slightly.
— I'm not going to fire you, you fool, - he said, his voice dropping to a whisper. — I just... I haven't felt anything but exhaustion for five years. And you're the only one who makes my heart beat faster, even when you just walk into a room. How can I be head of department when all I want to do is kiss my resident?
***
Dennis swallowed. His eyes were glistening - not with fear anymore, with something else. He slowly raised his hand and covered Robby's with his own. Touched his fingers - light, almost weightless.
— I thought you hated me, - he whispered. — I thought you despised me for being awkward around you. I thought if you found out my secret, you'd fire me.
Robby laughed. Bitter. Dry.
— Fire you? You're the reason I stopped sleeping. You're the person who made me think I'm old and worthless. Because I want you, and you have your whole life ahead of you. You could choose anyone. And you chose a broken old man with PTSD and a truckload of issues.
***
Dennis jerked. Stood up so fast Robby stepped back. But Dennis didn't move away. He stepped closer. Looked Robby straight in the eyes — for the first time, without fear, without stammering.
— I chose you, - he said. Voice steady, clear, without a tremor. — Not the brilliant doctor. Not the perfect one. The one I saved on that roof. I chose you, Robby. Old, tired, with PTSD. Because you're the only person who sees me. The real me. Not the mask.
He took Robby's face in both hands. Pulled him closer. Slowly, giving him a chance to pull away.
Robby didn't pull away.
***
The kiss was dry, light, almost chaste. Just lips touching lips - a test, a question, permission. Dennis pulled back first. Looked at him questioningly.
Robby stood frozen. Not breathing. Staring at Dennis, and there was only one thought in his head: I want this to never end.
He pulled him back in. Harder this time. Rougher. The kiss was hungry, desperate, like he'd been waiting for this for years. Dennis responded - clumsily, awkwardly, almost childishly, but with such intensity that Robby's head spun.
***
They broke apart when they heard footsteps in the hallway. Breathing hard, staring at each other.
— You realize what we just did? - Robby whispered.
— Yes, - Dennis answered. — And I want to do it again.
Robby laughed.
— You're insufferable.
— I know.
***
They stood in the office, foreheads pressed together. Night silence outside the window. The ticking of the clock. And the feeling that the world had turned upside down - and it was right.
— Dennis, - Robby said quietly. — You need to promise me something.
— What?
— No more jumping off ten-story buildings. I can't handle operating on you. I'm too old for that kind of stress.
Dennis smiled. Warm. Open. Like a child.
— Promise, - he said. — But you promise me something too.
— What?
— Don't stand on the edge of that roof anymore. If you have bad thoughts - call me. I'll fly over. Even without the suit.
Robby squeezed his shoulders. Tight. Almost painfully.
— Idiot, - he said, but there was no anger in his voice. Only tenderness. — You're an idiot. And I am too.
Dennis kissed him again. Light, quick, happy.
— I love you too, - he whispered. — Even when you yell at me in staff meetings.
Robby rolled his eyes.
— Don't remind me.
***
They stood there, holding each other, listening to the silence. Two people. Two secrets. One love.
Robby knew there were hard conversations ahead. With colleagues. With the board. With himself. With his damn conscience that would whisper: You're old, he's young, this is wrong.
But right now, feeling the warmth of Dennis's body, his breath against his neck, he knew one thing.
This was right. The only thing that was right.
— So, Spider? - he said, smirking. — Ready to start our life?
Dennis looked up. Smiled.
— Let's do it, - he said. — If you stop calling me Spider in public.
Robby kissed his forehead.
— Never, - he whispered.
And laughed quietly when Dennis elbowed him in the ribs.
***
Outside, the Pittsburgh night hummed its endless hum. The hospital lived its own life. And inside that small office, a new story was beginning.
A story no one expected.
But it happened anyway.
Because even the most broken people deserve a shot at happiness.
Even an old doctor with PTSD. And even a boy in a mask who just wanted to be himself.
