This is my original and baseline interpretation of Arthur and Merlin's relationship when seen from Arthur's POV. Arthur sees Merlin as fully human only when he is forced to recognize his Merlin's immense power in 5x13. And he all but states that outright when he apologizes to Merlin for how he treated him (like a dog for 10 years). Although I've since learned to ship them - and I genuinely do - I have to ignore the toxic class and toxic interpersonal canon element to enjoy their ship.

OP, your amazing poem made me cry real tears, especially on the 3rd time through reading the full text in Arthur's voice, speaking as a man, not a king. I've also read the full text through in Freya's voice and it works equally well. OMG. Incredible fanvid. It's a pain-soaked retelling of BBC Merlin from Morgana's POV. It beautifully illuminates Morgana's arc. This video has also changed my opinion of Katie McGrath's acting for the better.
