I agree with the language and sensuality post so much. When I started learning Irish more one of the first things I did was learn as many sexual phrases as I could because they're so culturally rich and it took months to unlearn the "this language is funny and/or academic and/or artistic but never sexy." But when I did? Gaelic erotic poetry was waiting for me
This all started because I saw a bunch of SEAsians arguing about how their mother tongues are just super unsexy and cringe and I was like?? The MOST perfunctory look at your own artistic histories will dig up stories of yearning and sensuality that would make your eyes pop out of your head, English is not the sole vehicle for eroticism!!! Your language is not cringe holy crap
And like, obviously, nobody has to do anything they don't want to (an astonishingly meaningless disclaimer so obvious I may as well tack on a reminder that you should breathe while reading this post, but I have to do this anyway) but like. I dunno. To view a language as inherently antithetical to sexuality is to view a people as inherently antithetical to sexuality unless they adhere to norms you feel personally comfortable with (e.g. speaking English during sex because it's gross otherwise). And if you're diasporic or biracial, don't you think this similarly informs how you view yourself? At best I'm like, this is a hangup that I think there's personal and artistic and erotic value in trying to get over, at worst I'm like I do think you have a lot of stuff to unpack about how the dominant culture you have been born into/has been forced onto you has informed how you view millions and millions of people
(And mind you it IS learned, given the ease with which monolingual English speakers will also accept Japanese or Spanish as languages intrinsically capable of expressing sexuality) (... also have thoughts on how some people view those as almost inescapably tinged with sexuality irrespective of context or content but that's a tangent)
