It’s taken hours of careful work.
He hadn’t been sure that he could do it at all. The Medic was by no means an artist, his expertise being almost exclusively medical in nature, but his skills did lend themselves to steady hands and an eye for detail. Each bit of ice chipped away was done so with precision and obvious purpose and while he had no need for references, he could still be seen checking his phone to ensure that everything was just right.
Extracting himself from his work is something of a process, as he’d seen fit to make his sculpture large enough that he might be able to fit his torso into those open spaces it provided, and he’s careful not to damage the ice as he does so.
The heart, taller than himself, isn’t perfect. It’s a little lopsided, the artery he’d just hollowed out could have been a touch narrower, but it’s impressive in its accuracy. Ludwig proudly steps aside to look it over once more, standing by his discarded coat with hands on his hips.
“Should I smooth it out more?” Was he speaking to himself or addressing a passerby? “I really can’t decide if the right ventricle is looking swollen or not.”
If the sculpture in progress hadn’t been so different than the other ones, Alydia might not have even stopped to look at it. At the start, she didn’t really know what it was going to be, but with how long the medic spent working on it she had time to go grab a cup of hot chocolate before he was done. And by the time she got back, she had a decent idea of what he was going for.
Not that she had any idea if it was accurate or not. She doesn’t usually pay too much attention to what actual hearts look like, so what does she know if it’s lopsided or not? She just liked watching him work, from a makeshift log bench a short distance away. He didn’t seem to mind the audience... or maybe he just didn’t notice her, too engrossed in the work.
Either way, she wanted to say her praises when he finally stepped back to look over his work, whether that question was meant for her or not.
“I think it looks great as it is, personally,” she called out, before taking another big sip of her drink, drumming her fingers against the cup.
“Are real hearts perfectly smooth? Probably. Is that boring? Definitely. Rough adds character, you know?”
Just in case her praise wasn’t coming across as genuine enough, she chose a foolproof last step to complimenting him:
A big thumbs up. “A+, dude.”
