Thinking of Rahne being amazed at a theater during one of the first issues, and realizing Illyana probably hadn't had much chance to see a movie theater either. So of course I used this opportunity to push forward my Rahne and Illyana have a dynamic I promise propaganda.

xuân's power is to posess people, specifically specified to be entering someone's mind, seeing all there is to see, and seize control of it. she literally got illyana to tell all the NMs why she was upset after charles forced her to pry into her friend's mind, she can be a very typical telepath if she wants to! we can have so many fun scenes of the way she sees everyone's mind a la tadc and the bedrooms and jax's mind in the finale, if marvel only ever decides they want to actually use her again

and dani dont get me started on dani! she also has the ability to see into people's mind and then project their thoughts into reality, that could easily evolve into reality manipulation!! let her create things out of people's psyche PLEASE

Giving Sam a lump of coal as a keepsake for his father was such a weird decision when miners tags literally exist

You can just give him those to wear on a string around his neck one that was his and one that was his dad’s (plus the other guys on the crew who died if you really want to)

The lack of care that went into developing how the kids all grew up in different cultures and modernizing that is still so baffling to me…what exactly did they think was happening in Kentucky in the late 2010s?? If the family needed money so badly and Sam was so young, I promise you that in a small southern town there’s a Dairy Queen to work at. Even if you lean into family legacy and the idea that Sam was expected to be a miner, it’s still handled badly!

+ that doesn’t even scratch the surface of Roberto being raised his entire life in Brazil but having a definitively American accent + him having straightened hair and lighter skin, or Rahne having experienced rural cultish religion but it just being generalized as modern Catholicism + acknowledging her religious trauma but giving her no anxieties about being queer????? or Illyana being able to speak fully fluent English without Xavier’s telepathy teaching ??? or making Dani experience racism from people who are supposed to be her friends for no reason other than interpersonal conflict between characters ???? there were other conflict options available ???

+ this doesn’t even touch on not including the disabled Vietnamese lesbian who was the FIRST MEMBER OF THE TEAM in a NEW MUTANTS ORIGIN STORY

Also what year is it meant to be set In because no one seems to know?!

Guys please be honest. Dani Moonstar stories get better after the demon bear saga right. They get better. I'm not gonna be stuck in the trenches of one-off cameos. Right??? Please tell me they get better

it gets WAY better. The Beyonder saga is literally peak. AND NM SPECIAL EDITION???? AAAAAA. it's soooooo good.

I understand why the demon bear saga is so associated with Dani, but it’s strange that it’s seen as this great defining Dani arc when she’s actually unconscious for most of it.

It’s more a display of how the other new mutants feel about her and what they’re willing to do for her than it is about Dani processing anything for herself. I’d actually argue that the demon bear saga does more to develop Illyana’s relationship with the group and her connection to people post limbo than it does to develop Dani. More of Dani’s growth actually happens afterwards as she deals with having been so seriously injured.

The beyonder saga very much has Dani in a defining role where she’s actually conscious and involved and is locked into her signature tortured overly responsible desperate lovable self.

Sometimes it’s so hard being a fan of Illyana Rasputin because I think she’s a really fascinating character and also in my heart I know she’s a lesbian and her backstory to me reads heavily as an allegory for CSA and then comic book artists will draw her in the most male-gazey-skintight-leather-titty-window-thigh-gap way with zero consideration for that
