Tatum Wells was born to a practically picture-perfect family in London, England, in August of 1985. Her father, an American-born hedge fund manager, produced three beautiful daughters with a British pediatric doctor; Casey, who was born almost six years after Tatum’s birth, and Tallulah, eight years after Casey. The couple welcomed their first son, a baby boy named Noah, right around the time that Tatum turned twenty, though the infant succumbed to pneumonia six months after her was born. Tatum had been in New York, studying criminal justice, when news of her brother’s death reached her. Taking a semester off, the young woman immediately flew home to grieve their loss taking on a maternal role with her youngest sister, considering her mother was never quite her whole self after Noah’s death. Tatum returned to New York at her father’s urging, wanting his eldest daughter to live her life to its full extent and not to fall into a caregiver role.
Tatum returned to New York, graduating among the top of her class and immediately joining the police academy for the NYPD in 2007. She moved through the ranks quickly, passing the Sergeant’s exam with flying colors. It was in October of 2009 that her entire life changed. On what was supposed to be a celebratory trip to Dover to celebrate Tallulah’s exceptional exam scores, their mother drove their vehicle off a cliff, immediately killing the two passengers. The twenty-seven year old spiraled, to say the least. The woman lived recklessly – drinking, partying, doing anything [legal] that would bring her close enough to death without actually dying, needing to feel some sort of adrenaline rush.
After an intervention from her father and some of her sorority sisters, Tatum took a leave of absence from the NYPD to join the army, desperate for a rush that police work couldn’t provide. She was deployed to Kuwait in November of 2011, after six months of basic training for the United States Army. The woman found it to be her best option; what better place to feel a rush than on the front lines of battle? The last thing she expected was to fall in love. When she was overseas, she met a man named Sebak Raouf. The two fell in love fast and hard, dating after weeks of knowing each other and getting engaged on Christmas Eve 2012, shortly after they returned to New York from their first deployment. They were married in May of 2014, in a small, family only ceremony in the Poconos.
After serving 5 years, Tatum and Sebak officially discharged from the Army in 2016 and the woman returned full-time to the NYPD, taking a Captain position in the Special Victims Unit, eventually being promoted to Lieutenant in November 2019. It was only after reuniting with her sister, Casey, that Tatum reigniting her friendship with Elias Morgan. She knew of some of his ‘business dealings’ from their time in college, but was surprised to see how it had grown since she’d been gone. He came to her for help, asking for information on a specific individual with whom had crossed him, and while she was initially unsure, Elias had been one of Tatum’s most loyal friends, and agreed to look into it. From there, the woman began to do low-key investigative work for the man, turning a blind eye to the rest of his illegal doings.
In spring of 2019, Tatum and her husband began trying for a baby. After eighteen months of trying and nothing, the woman finally went to see a specialist, where she found out it was highly unlikely she would ever be able to carry a child of her own. Instead of letting it break her, Tatum threw herself into her work on the Special Victims Unit; if she couldn’t have kids, she would at least do her damn hardest to protect the ones she could. The thought of children often weighs heavy on her mind, and has started discussing with her husband using a surrogate to carry their child for them.
