Fallout 02x02: The Golden Rule

This pattern is Contemporary #4695 by Federal Glass Company, but is often referred to as Boomerang, or Ameoba.

It is a rare piece made as part of a promotion in the 1950’s. They were painted with 22k gold that tends to wear off, so finding them in good condition is difficult.

Panasonic Microcassette Recorder RN-105 is the model used by Kyle MacLachlan as Dale Cooper in the pilot episode of Twin Peaks.

The one on the right is fully functional, but needs a deep cleaning. The other needs much more work. The record button is partially stuck, some alkaline Amazon batteries leaked, and it is probable the capacitors need replacing.

I have a license to HAM, a soldering gun, a multimeter, a miniature screwdriver, a capacitor discharger, replacement capacitors, Swiss Army Knife, gloves, goggles, and the will to save more of these from the landfill.

This model is from 19 July 1988, before I was born.

I could not find anyone who had taken one of these apart, or any repair tutorials for this model.

Panasonic made quality electronics that can be repaired. I cringe at needless electronic waste. Most people only think they want something new, but these older electronics have a longer lifespan than any iPhone. To quote our special agent “Leasing may be the fast track to the appearance of affluence, but equity will keep you warm at night”.

The average lifespan of an electrolytic capacitor is 5-20 years. None of these are bulging, but they have likely dried out in the last 38 years. This is an easy fix with some simple tools and a little knowledge. Some of the PCB resistors look cracked only because of glare, and pass visual inspection in person.

What hurts me in this scene is Hank couldn't imagine a life without Lucy in it. It also stands to reason he couldn't live in a world where he knew his daughter was her old way without causing horrors upon others. And honestly I don't know which is worse:

That he knows he did the wrong thing but did it on behalf of Lucy or because he wanted to destroy the world For Lucy and that he tried to control her as well in order to fulfill his promise.

It was extra time-consuming making those tails out of ganache (caramelized white chocolate for Vulpix and peppermint white chocolate for Alolan Vulpix) and then dipping them separately, but I really wanted to make them look fluffy 🥲 I think I managed a few cute ones I'm really proud of in the end though!

And this really soft one I got at the MINISO Shop in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

I bet Hank had the FEV, and Steph is going to try and unleash it on the vault, but Chet is going to save everyone.

The survivors are going to turn on Betty, and everyone will want Chet as Overseer, but he will decline and they will elect Reg instead while Chet leaves to find Norm before they go to rescue Lucy.

I have not been able to identify this dish, that looks as if it was made from an early type of melamine. The dish in the back looks as if it is a typical Pyrex or Anchor Hocking square baker, but I could be wrong. No idea about the tray the rolls are resting on. I love the crocheted bottle cap trivet.

I have also not been able to identify the chrome table and chairs, wall mount chrome paper towel dispenser, the sculptural wood table lamp, or the record player. I thought the dispenser might have been a Lincoln Beautyware, but it does not match any of the models I have seen. Those are corningware dishes on the counter, but I do not know about the canisters behind them. The starburst clock is probably made by Elgin, but I have not been able to identity the model. If anyone has answers please enlighten me.

The salt and pepper shakers, as well as the oil cruet, are from an unknown frosted pattern made by Hazel Atlas often called Atomic or Teardrop by sellers. There were two versions of this pattern, with the other featuring blue and red spots.
