I’m Taylor Hebert aka Weaver, from Earth-Bet.
A quick run-down: superheroes and supervillains exist. They get powers in a traumatic event, called a ‘trigger event’. Powers come with a couple of major problems: a compulsion to use them in new and creative ways which is fine on its own, a drive to create and participate in conflict, which given the previous creates a much bigger problem, and any mental impacts from the trauma tend to be magnified tenfold.
In other words, if you’ve got powers, you’re walking wounded. Some powers are incredible, powerful, a cut above the rest. Some are about average, and some are below par.
I got the power to control bugs. If you’re wondering what my trigger event was, don’t: asking that is basically the worst question to ask a parahuman. I can talk about how I used my powers later, but for now I’m going to cover more general topics.
There are twelve basic classifications of parahuman powers, created by the PRT- Parahuman Response Teams. They’re the US non-parahuman organization, and they work with the Protectorate across the country. PRT is non-parahumans working to capture criminal parahumans and protect civilians. The classifications are as follows:
Mover: moving themselves and others. Increased maneuverability, flexibility, travel, etc. Teleporters and flyers both fall into this category.
Shaker: AOE. Doing stuff within a range, to manipulate the surroundings. Ranged effects that don’t require aiming. Telekinesis and most other -kinesis abilities fall under this category.
Brute: tougher, stronger, etc. Super strength, regeneration, and increased durability/invulnerability all fall into this category.
Breaker: modifying physics as it applies to yourself. Really, mostly just intangibility and other effects that don’t fall under Changer.
Master: controlling things. I fall under this category, but it extends to more than just animals- controlling humans, or making projections that you can control also count as Master powers.
Tinker: build stuff. Like this Tony Stark guy, except that Tinkers don’t really understand what they build, and it can’t be mass produced. Tinkers all have specialties, or areas of design that they build in.
Blaster: pew pew. Any sort of ranged effect that requires aiming.
Thinker: information gathering. Precognition, telepathy, enhanced senses, and enhanced processing are all Thinker powers.
Striker: like Blasters, but at touch range. Generally more powerful than Blasters- strength of effect at the cost of range.
Changer: shapeshifting. Any sort- swelling muscles, taking other faces, etc.
Trump: powers that affect other powers. Nullification, ‘pick-a-power’, enhancement, etc.
Stranger: powers that make it harder to find you. Invisibility is the classic Stranger power, but there are others.
