I blink away from my little daydream and quickly reply to his question. "O-of course I know that! The elders won't stop droning on about it!"
He gives me a deadpan look, almost as if he was already tired of being in my presence. "Is that so..." He trails off with a very sarcastic tone. This guy, no matter how pretty, has a bit of an attitude problem.
"Well, what about you?" I blurt the question out before I can even think it through. He raises his eyes and brows before gesturing around himself.
"Well, if you couldn't tell from the direction I came from, I came from a deeper part of the forest. I don't even have a lantern on me." He opens his cloak slightly, revealing a well-worn white button-up shirt, and brown pants that are torn at the edges, only held up by a belt that carries an old dagger hilt.
"The only weapon I have on me is a dagger, and I'm not even wearing any shoes." Sure enough, his feet were entirely bare, mud and dirt obviously cake the bottom parts, but there don't seem to be any type of scrapes or scars.
"Yeah... You're really weird so what?" He put his arms across his chest and scoffs.
"Obviously, I have experience. I know this area like the back of my hand. So much so that I barely even need methods of self-defense." He puts a finger on my chest, glazed eyes boring into my own. "You have one small and easy-to-hide lantern with no methods of self-defense. I'm not the one you should be worrying about."
I flush a bit, how the hell did he know that I chose this lantern to hide it easier? It must have been the mention of the village elders earlier... Whatever it doesn't matter. "Well, if you're so adamant about me leaving, I suppose I'll just go" I turn around with a huff.
He shrugs in response. "That's for the best if you ask me. Try not to get caught by anything on your way back, I don't want to deal with the consequences."
Confused by his wording I turn back around, "What does that even mean-"
But the boy with the glazed eyes was gone.
