turns out they are a part of yet another horrific business model based on preying on vulnerable poor people, particularly disabled people of color, stalking and harassing them into signing away thousands of dollars they were legally awarded (situations like a person who has long-term disability from lead paint exposure due to a landlord's neglect of the apartment they grew up in).

one company literally had a whole scheme looking for "virgins" who had lead settlements but hadn't sold anything yet and try to hunt down people who received settlements as children so they can start harassing them with 10 phone calls a day, emailing them, and contacting them on social media in order to pressure them into giving away their money as soon as they are legal adults. and once you sell once, these companies will keep trying to get you to sell more. and the legal guardrails in place in most states are very easily manipulated.

so if the topic ever becomes relevant in your day-to-day, please remember that JG Wentworth 877-CASH-NOW was made by the devil (capitalism) and you should pray for its downfall every day. if anyone in your life (or you) has been awarded a structural settlement and you need cash now, do not go anywhere near these predators.
