@tbzrai
I think some of you people played ur copy of samurai remnant while wearing moeblobification goggles that are powered solely thru the handholding scene and ooc interpretations because theres no goddamn way yui’s most prominent fanon characterisation is just moeblob blushy non-human who experiences love for the first time >///< and literally nothing else
im convinced some of you dont like yui, you just like some bastardised version of her that you’ve made up in your heads
Since you're not only slandering a character but saying that others are misinterpreting the story for not despising someone you hate, I'll bite the bait. To my followers, look away if you don't wanna see me deal with this. I thought the Tumblr fandom was finally normal. but nope. It's the same here too.
You'll probably brush this off as me being too autistic (I am actually diagnosed as that. So I can use that term, unlike people throwing it around for whatever) but I don't care.
So I agree with the surface level of what you're saying. I don't like seeing characters mischaracterized in fanart, especially female ones turned all blushy. It's apparently very common in JP fandoms to turn ships into a seme and uke dynamic. I agree that I don't like that in fanart.
However, I can sense the actual venom of the text. You are angry that Yui, a character you seem to dislike, is portrayed positively in fanart in a ship you dislike, and you call people who create that kind of content illiterate.
What is the purpose of your post, exactly? You're insulting artists? I disagree with a lot of interpretations, even finding them problematic, but I wouldn't publicly deride them. You're insulting people's understanding of the story for liking a character you despise?
I read FSR 2 years ago. It saved my life. I forgot about Fate for 2 years, I got back into it a few months ago, and in those months, I both deepened my understanding of the story and got caught up on the fandom dynamic. FSR is niche yet popular enough in the English fandom to breed a cliquey dynamic where you must have the right opinions to fit in. The FSN and FGO fandoms are big enough to have variety, but not the FSR one.
Did I miss some kind of memo? Why is Yui the character we are slandering, and slandering anyone who doesn't want to burn her at the stake?
Nah, even though I'm autistic, I know. This all boils down to shipping. You are very angry that her presence gets in the way of a ship you're overly attached to, most presumably Iori/Takeru. You most likely hate any woman with romantic interest, or hell not even, who breathes near Iori, because you have a romantic, sexual and/or platonic interest in him yourself.
I used to be just like that when I was a teenager. I know what it's like to feel insecure over and hate female characters. And I got over it. That's why me calling you out isn't altruism - it's the opposite. But I have faith in my evil. Do you? You clearly don't if you're making a post like this.
I do like Yui, actually. I love that she's a female hero of justice, like Ayane Ichijo from Full Metal Daemon Muramasa but with more kindness. I like her being an Einzbern homunculus like Illyasviel, since FSN was my entry into TM. I like her dynamic with Iori because they both hate the world's unfairness in different ways, and I like that he hides his wish from her because he cares about her, like Ophelia/Kirschtaria.
I also like her dynamic with Ushi Gozen for the potential, although for different reasons than you - not spite shipping lol. Since her writing got done dirty in multiple parts thanks to Koei Tecmo, she's not as high on my favorites as she could be.
But this is just Mash Kyrielight hate 2.0. The homunculus girl with inconsistent writing gets burned at the stake because of fucking shipping. And I'm so sick of it. They're not that high on my Fate favorites, but to despise them because of shipping is ridiculous and pathetic.
If it weren't Mash? It would be anyone else taking the main heroine spot. If it weren't Yui? It would be anybody else with a vagina who breathes near Iori.
I'm not a "rival shipper", if you think this is what this is. I mainly am Ioricentric and care about him and like to see all the canon dynamics with him and other potential ones with other TM characters. So to see a harmless character I would have liked to see more of receive hate for existing near him makes me sad.
Mash hate was much worse - people wished physical harm on her. However, the FGO fandom finally got sick of it and stamped it out. A lot of people find her boring or her dynamic with Ritsuka deadlocked, but they know it's not her fault. It's the game for making her the main heroine. Anybody else would suffer like this in her spot.
Yui hate isn't as bad as the worst Mash hate, but it's a much worse echo chamber because of how cliquey the FSR fandom is. People pissing and moaning whenever she's brought up. "Oh, the het agenda! Love ruins ideals!" Fate has always said the opposite.
It's insane what people have come up with to hate on it. Saying that Iori is Kirei and Yui is his Bazett, meaning comparing them to a genuinely abusive relationship. Some Twitter nutcase is now saying that Yui stalks him in FGO. I wasn't supposed to bring this up yet but fuck it. Takeru is the one who actually does that in FGO.
I'm saying this as someone who has Iori/Takeru as my favorite dynamic (although for different reasons than you. One of them being that they're both unlucky in different ways), the most aggressive shippers are just as toxic as the worst Shirou/Artoria shippers, who are infamous in the TM fandom. It's a shame because both dynamics are interesting, so I don't know why they breed the most toxic shippers.
Not saying everyone who likes the ships are toxic, but that the most toxic TM shippers tend to ship one of them, from what I've seen. They even both bitch about FGO "ruining" their ship too. "Oh no, FGO needs to get its act together and do something for once!" You're not special. Every character is static in Chaldea. Us FGO fans know that and hate it, but we know no character is immune.
You cannot publicly say that you like Iori's dynamic with anyone else in canon or potential interactions or say that Ototachibana's death might have influenced Takeru's clinginess on Iori, without somebody losing their mind. What is it about both Artoria and Iori that makes people so possessive of them like they're accessories? It's not that deep. Y'all would have an aneurysm at my silly TM crackship ideas with Iori lmao.
So then, I'll throw your original slander back at you:
I'm convinced some of you don't actually like Iori and Takeru.
In the 2 years that FSR has come out, how many people have ever actually said anything on Iori's character other than the most surface-level stuff of "wow..Nasu played coy..he's EVUL!!!!!" when Oberon was actually the first instance of a true nature twist character being evil. Who has said anything on his character's themes, not just the edge? How many people have realized that Takeru is technically a bad boy character, because their suffering drives them to do bad things, like being okay with collateral deaths at first. Other than my friends and one person I talked to on here, no one.
I'm not asking you to write a dissertation. Just to say literally anything on the meaning of the characters for you.
But it's all the same old stuff on repeat. "They're so hot..wow...the yume can't yume...Takeru is the self insert!" Just admitting to only liking them out of physical attraction and blatantly self inserting. That is offensive to both of them and Takeru themselves too. People are even mocking Takeru's gender identity of being AMAB and then identifying as NB as a servant by saying they were born genderless just to self-insert into them.
I've never seen something like this in the TM fandom before. People would call FGO fans gooners, but even the most horny people would actually discuss why they clicked with their favorites. People would accuse Ritsuka shippers of doing nothing but reducing to romance, but even they'd talk about the dynamic and the characters themselves, not just objectify nonstop like the FSR fandom does.
It's funny, you know. Iori's story made me feel more confident in myself. I used to think I was ugly. His story about not being good enough made me stop believing that and made me realize a lot of people treated me badly because I wasn't ugly. And seeing the out-of-universe reactions to him too..I now realize that being considered beautiful isn't always a good thing.
Of course, the humanities loving part of me asks, is shipping bad if it's self-inserting? Is it a crime? Well, given how the TM fandom tears each other to shreds over self-inserting, even insisting their OCs are not self inserts, it's considered bad to the majority.
It's fine to enjoy a story for the porn, I guess! Oberon in LB6 taught me to accept all takes in fiction. But it's really at the same level of FGO haters who get off to the doujins anyway.
I remember one Mash hater who wanted her r*ped told me "it's just a fictional character, she's not your OC, stop caring".
The thing is, the reasons why we like or dislike a fictional character say a lot about us. Not the act of loving something or not clicking with something, but the reason as to why.
If you're losing your mind online over and even hating the fans of a female character for being romantic competition to your ship or you, how do you act in real life towards other women who interact with you?
You need to realize this: hating someone isn't going to make the person you want need you instead. I learned that, and you should too. You wouldn't hate on Yui, or Mash Kyrielight, or any other poor female character, if she weren't a real threat. Tale as old as time.
But me hating you wouldn't give me what I want either - you to stop being misogynistic. So I won't hate you.
Instead, I'll just say to have more faith in your evil. Own it, yo. "Yeah, I'm a misogynistic and possibly even transphobic person because I simp for so and so. It lives rent free in my head that I can't stop bitching about it."
Go and say that instead of vagueposting like this, and curate your online experience better, eh? And maybe next time, don't accuse harmless artists or actual literate people over misunderstanding the story because they don't hate someone who reminds you of how pathetically insecure you are.
I would love to properly respond to this one day (no promises, but I wont be satisfied until I can give a full answer to your reblog) as fsr is also a game I hold dear to my heart but due to my current limitations I atleast want to leave you with this. Putting this under the cut so I dont break up my usual short posts and fan gushing with a longpost jumpscare
I think you have twisted my words far too much from the original intention from several years back (seriously, this post was intended to be just me screaming at the void), just know that the reason why I made the post in the first place was to express my frustration that yui was being slotted into a very misogynistic fandom mindset where women have all their character watered down to just their most appealing and trope-y traits and how prominent this was in the early days of fsr’s release. I know this frustration deep in my bones because it happens like clockwork in pretty much every fandom ive been in and it saddens me that there are complexities being tossed aside for the sake of more palatable readings of a girl character, yui included.
I wasn’t seeing anything about things like both her and iori’s perceptions of eachother in tandem (ive only seen them one-sidedly from yui’s perspective and even then its reduced to a mere naive romance which COULD be one aspect of it but when its the only aspect it just feels dismissive of her character and ideals as a whole and the reasons why she was attracted to iori whether you view this platonically or romantically), her relationship with other characters, her grand ideals in contrast to her fleeting life and existence as a homunculus and like many other topics that I cant really think of from the top of my head since this game is 2 years old at the time of posting this (time flies!) which marks almost 2 years since ive completed it and my memory is already failing me (again, time flies kudos to you if you can remember this game by heart bc thats impressive in its own right)
I see you yourself have made meta/analysis posts on fsr and specifically about yui and iori (trust me ive read my fair share of really bad and shallow iori takes) and I wouldve LOVED to have seen more people like you back then, maybe my words from the original post wouldnt have come out so angry and pointed. “Why didnt you make any of these posts yourself?” easy answer is that im just not good at articulating my analysis and opinions, if ive ever made a long post chances are theyre closer to a very emotional word vomit and ive always admired people like you who can organise your thoughts and put them on paper whenever they strongly feel for a piece of media or character. Im afraid im NOT the change I wanna see just yet.
this still turned out far longer than I would have liked and as stated above I really do wanna find the time to reply point by point on your accusations against me but at the very least, I take great offense to you believing that I loathe yui so disgustingly for reasons that do not apply to me, as well as assuming that I love iori and saber so shallowly when you dont know me and my opinions of them at all. If you’re so pointedly accusing me of something im not then, sure, let me hand it back to you too. I believe that the partial reason for your anger is because you’re conflating me with louder opinions of other people from the fate fandom. I dont know how to tell you this but I do not represent the greater fate fandom and, hell, I barely even interact with the fate fandom in the first place so I hardly know where these non-fsr opinions are coming from minus the mash hate (trust me when I say I also love mash but if I go on a tangent here then this post would end up way longer than it already is currently). I dont even frequently interact with fsr fans since the fandom for it died down like a year into release apart from fanart. Also, the fate fandom is just bad all across diff platforms, im sorry your perception of the tumblr fandom being way better than twt/reddit/4chan went up in flames from my few sentence text post but thats just how it is for every fandom.
one final thing, as I said before this was just a post meant for me screaming into the void, as an artist and avid shipper myself I do not like directly attacking artists and people who ship things that I do not like (and well surprise, I do like iori/yui as a ship and part of my post was also fueled by me being unable to find fanart of it that I enjoy) so theres no reason for you to believe that this is me sending direct attacks to artists when its just me opinion on me small tunglr blog (and if we’re being honest im more active on twt where I ramble more mindlessly, surprisingly this post of mine was one of the more organised thoughts I had).
I do not wish to argue with you on this topic when frankly we’re on pretty similar pages beneath the surface on our opinions abt fsr but please for the love of god dont try to make a strawman out of me so you can put words in my mouth to get angry over. Again! I dont believe in any of the opinions you claim I believe in! this whole thing was unnecessary from the start. I dont like drama and I dont wish to have bad blood with you over my original opinion (which does not apply to you in any way since you happen to be the very few yui fans that I can tell greatly appreciate her character all around!) ✌️ love and peace
