2023 Art Goals
I’ve been seeing a lot of artists I follow do a list of these, and I think it would be helpful to me to kind of outline what I’d like to accomplish this year. I started this blog (kind of) in 2020 during the pandemic, but didn’t really start using it until last year, and even then pretty inconsistently. Even so, I did make a lot of big improvements, and I figure focusing on specific areas ought to help me improve even more!
Learn gouache/watercolor - For my birthday last month, I bought myself some nice paints, and I think it might be nice to learn how to use them. A real loosey-goosey kind of goal, I’m thinking maybe do three paintings total of either medium.
Do more digital art - Another loosey-goosey goal, I’d like to do three more digital pieces where I attempt new techniques and work on the ones I kind of know but don’t have the hang of yet. I’ll probably do more of the Three Houses Nart AU for this one, since I have a couple of sketches already.
Complete Med’s 100 Heads - I’m taking this so slowly, but I’d still like to finish all 100 Heads by summer, and then potentially do the challenge again (or do the 50 Heads challenge) come autumn/winter with more of a speed mindset.
Get better at gesture drawings - This one’s tough. I dunno what it is yet, but some days I struggle with gesture and others I don’t. So I’d like to build up the muscle memory to get this basic foundational skill up to par.
Complete an October Challenge - I did pretty good last year, all things considered (real life really got in the way, and I got overwhelmed by having to learn a lot of skills all at the same time). This year I’d like to either complete a whole month, or take my progress from last October and double it (8 -> 16)
Complete another sketchbook - Considering the timeframe I completed my first sketchbook (Nov-Sept), I think this one is reasonable, even if Sketchbook #2 is about double the size and three times the page count.
