The César E. Chávez Planning Committee at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) has established a UCSD Undergraduate Student Essay Contest Award in honor of César E. Chávez. The award will recognize students who have demonstrated commitment to the advancement of César’s core values at UCSD and abroad. Winners will receive the monetary prizes and recognition in UCSD media publications. The Essay Contest Winners will receive recognition in UCSD media publications, in addition to the monetary prizes. Prize recipients must attend the Cesar E. Chavez Celebration Kickoff Luncheon on Friday, April, 6th in the Price Center Ballroom. All materials submitted become the property of the César E. Chávez Planning Committee and will not be returned to the applicant. A panel of UCSD volunteer judges will select the winners. Essay Contest recipients will be notified by April 2nd. Please direct all questions to [email protected] Essay Contest Prompt Cesar Chavez was a prolific community organizer and a champion of social change. He used ten core values to guide his life. Using one or more of these core values with which you most identify, please discuss how you have contributed to equity and social justice at UC San Diego. How will you apply Cesar’s core values to create positive change in the Latina/o community and the greater society?
Deadline to Apply: Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, March 27, 2018 11:59pm. Essays can be emailed to [email protected] Must put “César E. Chávez Essay Contest” in the email subject line Requirements: Registered UCSD undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. Essay Contest Guidelines: Submit a one-two page essay in a word document answering the Essay prompt. Essay submissions should be in a format of your choice (APA, MPA, etc.).
